Looking for Cold Weather Recommendations

You could take a close look at the pour points of various oils. Sure, it's nebulous and not a direct measurement like the CCS (cold crank simulator test) . But it can help highlight oils that may be a bit too viscous when temps drop below the norm and into the -20ºF range.

It is generally said that modern syn 5W-30 oils are good to -20ºF. However, it is entirely possible to have a robust 5W-30 oil that pours at -40ºC and a different one that pours at -60ºC (-75ºF)

Note: There is a reason I live in South Florida. Extreme cold does me in.

as a rule of thumb we use in wis. if you have a 5w-30 synthetic engine oil with a pour point like -49 the safe use temp is 20f degrees warmer, then -29f will do fine, its a rather indirect method way of determining cold performance of oil but it works.and if its colder than -29 best to stay in if possible.

GF-6A with Dexos rating will cover your concerns 4,000 mile oil changes is keeping it conservative on a good synthetic. Any of Mobil 1 oils will do that but keep your eyes out for sales on other popular brands. 5w30 would be fine but any concerns follow the manual recommendation on 0w30

Just bought a 2019 Ford F-150 3.5L Ecoboost with 96,000 miles. Getting ready to change oil for the first time. I don't drive very much especially in the winter up here in Montana. Very short trips in town daily. (I do however run it out on the highway about once a week to get it up to temp and hopefully burn off any condensation in the oil.)
Looking at the CCS testing I'm leaning towards PUP 5W-30. But I am wondering about maybe doing a 0W-30 as recommended in the manual for cold weather. Maybe the Mobil1 AFE. However, with the ecoboost engines I'm worried about fuel dilution and it getting too thin as the OCI goes on. I'm planning to do 4,000 mile OCI's. And after this change doing a UOA to check for fuel dilution.
What do you all recommend?
Don't fire the engine with the oil thicker than 16,000 cP.
In MT you probably want that 0w.
Fuel dilution is the main hazard, 4,000mi should take care of you. Testing is a good idea. Do a 3,000 to 4,000 mile oci, pull a sample and see how it looks.

I have that motor in a 2020 police version. Winter before last I was called in to work and it was -25, drove 100 miles north where it was -34. Actual temp not windchill. I did not shut it off all night but it started fine at -25. This is a fleet vehicle running Mobil Delvac 5W40 with an 8,000 OCI. Remote started in the winter every day, 1000 hours idle time on the clock and 150,000 on the odometer used hard. Zero issues. Don't sweat it. I run a 5,000 OCI in my 2.7 eco with Castrol Edge ep. Would happily run any version of Mobil 0w30 or 5w30 or 0w40 or 5w40.
