I thought Chipotle was healthy

Which part of a Chipotle burrito did you think was healthy? The sour cream? The cheese? The meat filled with god-knows-what?

I don't see how you are so shocked at this revelation. It's just like the woman who buys a "salad" at a fast food joint with loads of ranch, bacon, chicken, etc and wonders why she is not losing weight.

Chipotle CAN be healthy if you make it right. Dumping cheese, sour cream, etc all over it does not help.

Getting the "bowl" and avoiding certain ingredients makes it much better.

That Chipotle burrito is listed at 1050 calories. A Big Mac with fries has roughly the same amount of calories. I believe it's 563 for the Big Mac with cheese, and 573 for the large fries.

Add a coke, for additional calories.

You can't go into any restauraunt and assume anything. If you need to know, ask for the nutritional information sheets if they have it to provide.

I do agree with the OP, we should be more concerned about what we're putting in our stomachs, rather than what's going into the engine.

It's mostly the amount of sodium. The fresh tomato salsa doesn't need 300 mg of salt. If they half the sodium, with chicken and the peppers and onion with tomato salsa, it would be healthy. It tastes like a salt burrito with meat.

For a bit of trivia, McDonalds owned a controlling interest in Chipotle until 2006

If it tastes good eat it. Probably not every day though. Eat half one meal then half the next meal. Some have too much time on their hands to be able to worry about the sepia.

You know what killed Chipotl-away for me?

The little Taqueria around the corner from work.

They blare the musica norteña way too loud, the employees speak little English, and there's a good possibility that the food is even less healthy than Chipotl-away....

...but the food is soooo good. The portions are generous and they treat you like family. And if you are feeling adventurous, there's lengua, chicharones, tripas...etc...in addition to the barbacoa, pollo, fajita, horno de rez...etc...

So I can stand in a long line with a bunch of puka shell necklaced TCU or UTA frat boys for a burrito that is mostly rice and salt or be treated like family with lots of real good food.

You know where I'll be.

I dont think chipotle ever made themselves out to be healthy. "high quality" well-grown meats were what they offered...

I eat lunch (and dinner sometimes) from a local taco truck. Best, most authentic (ie the little double tortilla Mexican street tacos) Mexican food around. I eat the ceviche regularly. It's all fresh, I've never gotten sick (never thought I would given how popular this truck is), and it tastes amazing. It's cheap to!

No Chipotle close to me anymore so I don't eat there much. I used to live closer to one and would eat half a burrito for dinner and take the rest for lunch the next day.

Those things are huge.

I can seriously put down two of their burritos some days. Love them. My girlfriend is only 100lb and can eat a burrito and then some, with NO problem.

I would take the better ingredients chipotle uses over ANY other fast food, regardless of calories and all that. If you don't eat it everyday, don't worry. I have it maybe once a month (maybe twice). So delicious. I don't know why one would consider them healthy though, by any means.

I'd pick the local Taqueria over Chipotle any day.

The rice is better, the meat is better, the salsa is better, the sauce is better, well maybe not the chips but why would I fill my stomach up with chips when a good burrito is in my hands?

I'll Pass thanks.

Its healthy when you portion whatever you order into 5 meals and only eat 1/5 of it a day for 5 days ;o)

The problem with much so-called healthy and organic foods is that no-one is policing the claims. Brain dead consumers believe the advertising and marketing, while not reading the labels!

Read the label!!

Recently they opened up a TraderJoes locally. All the vegan, vegetarian, and healthy eaters shop there. I walked in, read a bunch of labels, and laughed.

All natural corn syrup, organic hydrogenated vegetable oil, and natural flavors...always gives me a good laugh.

Manufactured food can't be too good regardless if made in overrated restaurant or sold in overrated supermarket.

If you want to be healthy, stick with your kitchen & a recipe book. Shop smart!

Man, that is so true.

Recently a local diner revealed some of their kitchen secrets to us as we got a tour from the owner.

While their food tastes good and they are extremely clean in all areas (kitchen, dining room, restrooms) I saw the huge bucket of butter flavored oil next to the grill that the cook was ladeling all over the home fries.

Very few real restaurants care at all about the 'health' of their food. It's about making a buck!
