Which Lubegard additive to use with ATF+4?

I don't know about additives, but AMSOIL makes the best lubricants, with Red Line being a close second.
I've used Red Line's MTF. It's good stuff.

I don't see a specific ATF+4 from AMSOIL. Who has used their muti-vehicle ATF in a Chrysler transmission?

I've been thinking of adding Lubegard to the ATF+4 used in our 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan w/ 3.3 and 4-speed AT.

No driveability issues, simply wanting to keep the transmission as healthy as reasonably possible.

Shortly after we bought the van almost four years ago, I replaced the transmission oil pan with a pan with a drain plug. At the time of the pan replacement, I replaced the filter.

That was at 199,000 km (c. 124,000 miles). We're now at 265,000 km (c. 164,000 miles), and I've done several drain-and-fills. Each drain is about 2.5 US quarts.

For the first fill (with the pan drop) and several after that, I added Castrol synthetic ATF+4.

I couldn't find the Castrol last time, and bought NAPA-branded ATF+4.

So why do I want to add Lubegard?

If the transmission fails, the cost of a repair would likely exceed the value of the van. It's not worth much, but has served us well, and I think will continue to, barring a major mechanical failure. It would be good if it lasts another couple of years, to get us through the grandchildren's multiple-car-seat era. I figure the Lubegard would be cheap added insurance, and will buy me some peace of mind. (I probably don't actually have to justify this to the BITOG crew.)

So, which Lubegard product would you recommend for my application?

Thanks!
FWIW, I have owned Chrysler products for over 20 years. I have serviced the transmissions at or before the recommended interval. I have only ever used Mopar, Valvoline and Super Tech ATF+4. The only vehicle I added an additive to was our 1998 van that was slipping. I used the Lucas transmission fix to earn several thousand more miles out of a damaged transmission. All my other vehicles get nothing but ATF+4. We have a 2005 Jeep GC with ~199K on it and going fine. We also had a 2006 T&C with 150K on it that we sold for our 2014. My 2012 Ram has 120K on it and was used to to our 11K TT.

IMO, stick with ATF+4 and change it as recommended and don't add anything else.

Just my $0.02

I've heard Mola talk about this before and honestly I'm not sure if it's problematic or not. I've done probably 200k miles cumulatively with the Plat and no issues. I definitely don't overdose it though; 1oz/qt or slightly less. LG says that platinum can be used with any ATF. There are several members here that run it as well with no concerns, I believe @ctechbob might be one as well?
I thought that LG Plat could be used with any ATF that doesn’t already have a friction modifier in their chemistry in order to turn them in a FM’d ATF. However, it does seem to work for you & others. Well done!

My comment isn’t to start an argument/disagreement, it’s just that I didn’t know. (y)

Yes it seems to work fine from what I can tell.

And absolutely not didn't come off that way! Love the open discussions here 🙏

Hey, really appreciate this answer to the question of who makes the best lubricants. I have been searching for this info on BITOG for nearly 20 years, and really value this useful, definitive answer.
Thinking less about stuff and just going with the flow helps a lot with moving things along in life. Thank you for your kind reply.

huh?table
I was laying on heavy sarcasm, as you answered the worn-out, fundamentally unanswerable question of which oil is best. You went beyond that and provided a second best. And you said it with the confidence of a devoted acolyte.

I'm not in a happy marriage and don't have much to make me feel good. At least when I play "mechanic" I feel like a man, and fixing things and sometimes improving them makes me feel like a "real guy". Every time my wife asks for a bigger purchase, I make sure at least a box of AMSOIL or Red Line shows up at the house. When she goes crazy spending, it's usually Valvoline that gets delivered. Still, she gets the message. Feels good when she gets all worked up or feels alone and starts to drop hints and I got to change the oil or work on the car, or go on a work related trip. Dude, please don't take that away from me. Maybe these lubes might not be the best for you, but for me, it's all I got, for now, so let it be.

Wow. Hang in there and if buying this stuff helps, go for it! Did not mean to bring you you down. Those oils are great, and I would use them if I wasn’t so **** cheap!

I think upgrading to better atf is the only real solution. HPL blue cc or redline c+ would be what i'd use.
What objective evidence do you have to say that they will provide longer life? ATF+4 is tightly controlled and performs well already. More frequent changes, even if just a dipstick tube withdrawal would pay dividends do at lower cost..

Pile On!

My favorite for an ATF4 vehicle is amsoil. I’ve also been pleased with the valvoline ATF+4 product as well. I’ve used LG RED in an ailing Gen4 41TE and found it encouraged softer shifts at the expense of a little more slipping during engagement. I would not add it to a electronically modulated Chrysler transmission unless there was something I was trying to fix (I was trying to fix a problem, or limp it along, and it my case this was intentional).

Sorry you're going through marital woes!

On a lighter note, my wife sometimes says, "Wow, you're so smart to be able to fix the car!"

My standard reply is, "Thank you, but if I were smarter I would earn more and be able to buy you a new car!". 😁

The transmission seems to work perfectly, so perhaps I'll stick with whatever ATF+4 I can find locally.

I've got enough NAPA-branded ATF+4 for the next drain-and-fill, but am not sure what to use after that. It seems to be rare stuff around here.

Edit: Mobil ATF+4 should be good stuff. Available at Canadian Tire.

So, for my locally available choices, should I get the Mobil ATF+4, or Castrol Transmax ATF+4?

The cost is similar.
Take your pick, I can't see how it would make a difference.

Personally, Valvoline Maxlife ATF is my upper limit for spending on a generic ATF ($50 / 5L at Walmart Canada). In this application, this is what I would use. More important to me is keeping the pan and magnet clean and the fluid temperature in check.

Is Maxlife considered an ATF+4 equivalent?
