I disagree! It is an old idea that has finally made its way towards the mainstream. But what do I know? I'm a genetic engineer. I make genetically modified livestock for a living.

I don't like eating hot dogs at home, but whenever I see a hot dog vendor with the BBQ, I gotta have one! And at a pool party this summer, the guy rented a hot dog steamer and those hot dogs were delicious! I must've eaten about six of them! Yummy!!

Pearl Hotdogs outta Boston:

I get em in 5lb. packies up in Goucester, Massachusetts. Finest hotdogs in the world. Better than Nates. Casing, linked hotdogs, all beef, and no hoofs, tongue, or lips. Cuts, not garbage. From the blog:

1 x Pearl’s All Beef, grilled with Andrew’s BBQ sauce and some sort of fancypants apple peach chutney

It’s my birthday, and since I get to choose the menu, we’re eating hot dogs. We found some Pearl’s at the Roche Bros. in Mashpee, so that pretty much sealed the deal. Since we have most of the consultants here on the Cape, we figured it was time to flex those creative muscles again. We found some lovely apple peach chutney that we thought would go great on a nice BBQed dog. Andrew handled the BBQ sauce which was a mix of some Stubb’s BBQ sauce (original), some grape jelly, and maybe some ketchup. They were totally delicious and wowed all in attendance.

Pearls are THE BEST! I do mine grilled over hickory, with a little yellow or deli mustard and crunchy-#@$%!.

I'm happy with the introduction of phage therapy for disease treatment etc. and am still amazed that it's not taking off in the Western World.

I just don't like the concept of spraying all these products with stuff when as mori points out decent hygienic manufacturing processes, sensible handling to avoid cross contamination, and selling before it goes off can still keep us safe.

I'm against the widespread broadcasting of these things for non-theraputic uses.

I know that phages work differently to antibiotics, but look how successful we have been at building antibiotic/antiseptic resistant bugs.

Alomost forgot. The Pearls, in the 5lb package are right there in the cooler with the lobsters upon my return from Gloucester, every trip, without fail.

Love Dem Pearls!

With the rare exception of the local Dairy Queen's Hormel chili dogs, the only hot dogs I normally eat are Nathan's or occasionally Hebrew National. Have seen hot dogs manufactured—eeeeewwwwwwwww—which is one reason I'm pretty picky about them. Nathan's has a fair amount of garlic, so those might not be to everyone's taste. No chicken, turkey, or pork franks.

Rule of thumb for safety: stay away from the cheap junk and get a decent all-beef kosher dog. Kosher rules for food processing are pretty tight, so you know those aren't having viruses sprayed on them!

Not a good idea to get bargain-basement hot dogs. I spring for the more expensive ones. I figure they're more likely to be made from named parts of the animal.

Anybody that lives near Northern VA. and has been to the Vienna Inn, knows exactly where to find some of the absolute best chili-dogs. I haven't a clue whats in them or what brand name. But with loads of sloppy chili and trans-fat liquid cheese, I don't really care. $1 a piece and with a 12oz also a buck, I can take care of things for under $10. Heaven.

This statement sounds like a line from the original "Planet of the Apes."

Bull peckers and unborn calf don't really bother me.

What I can't stand is bone meal! Some hotdogs, balogna, and Vienna sausage have so much they seem gritty.
