Here she is. A cleaner picture. Late 01 build date, rust free well used and loved. Besides the Impreza wrx being a car loved and modified by enthusiasts, my favorite part about this specific car is that it has been kept stock, used and worked hard as a daily driven car with active lifestyle type owner. It has plenty of scratches, dings, dents, and stories. It has been appreciated for its reliability, utility, turbo power for hills and passes, awd ability and functionality for snow storms. I've been humbled to be a part of it's more recent service and maintenance to get to keep it going. It has been extremely reliable overall and I imagine will continue to do so.

I mostly reject the MBA side of me when it comes to these things. I can pencil out costs to the mile like anyone else, but I don't place any value on that optimization.

So one filter costs a bit less or a bit more. Some oil costs a bit less or a bit more. To me, these are not things that move the needle on the budget. If I cared more about saving money, I'd cancel some subscriptions, pare down my cell phone plan, go out to eat less, those sorts of things. That's the real fat in my budget.

I'm not terribly concerned with another $20 or $30 every 6-12 months. I'm more concerned about how well the oil is working for my car.

It it worth to buy organic milk at twice the price? Maybe. For me, probably not. For someone convinced its better, probably it is. It might also depend on how much milk is consumed in your house and if you have particular sensitivities to non-organic milk. Maybe it tastes better to you and you use for little, so it's a tiny luxury you find entirely worth it. Or perhaps you have 3 teenage boys consuming a gallon a day and it's all you can do just to keep them fed. In that case, the organic stuff might not be worth the cost.

I buy used cars, keep them a long time, and spend the money on premium oils and filters instead of payments and accessories. It works well enough for me, ymmv.
I have 4 boys. I can attest to my now over $3k/mo grocery budget! 😅 Would organic be great? Absolutely. Would it double that budget? Absolutely, lol.

I spend on nice oils and analyses because it’s my hobby and I enjoy it secondary to riding motorcycles and teaching people how to ride them.

clean and sharp! To look that way after 8+ years in corrosion he must know what he is doing to take care of it!
When he first got it the frame was badly rotted out from rust so he had to have that all replaced. And over the years he has had bodywork done (professionally and some done himself) in order to get it to where it is now. It’s been a labor of love though, if he had not bought this car someone else would’ve likely sent it to the scrapyard by now

i love to see these old "golden era" subarus soldiering on. your silver wagon looks fantastic for a northern car and 242k miles is a solid run so far. reminded me of my old '05 2.5RS (basically a non-turbo WRX) that i had for a decade until it was rear ended at 135k miles. it was my daily driver but i beat the tar out of it doing every kind of amateur motorsport you could imagine, from rallycross to autocross to track days. always ran 0W-40 in it and although the center diff was tired at the end, the only unscheduled maintenance was an externally leaking head gasket at 88k miles which I had replaced with proper MLS gaskets, and a single rear wheel bearing. it was incredibly slow but so easy to toss around.

had a few basic bolt ons (STi struts, WRX rear sway, exhaust) that helped it corner better without lowering it, an aggressive alignment and some better pads, but otherwise stock. hope you get many more fun years out of yours.

Right in the feels ScottyB! The 2002 Wrx is my fiance's car. I had a 2005 RS too. Earned a special place in my heart to say the least. It was dead reliable until the day it saved my life after hitting a tree. I remember seeing your post back in the day about Mobil 1 0w40 in your car. Started using it in mine a few months later, for many years.

no way! small world. us N/A guys had to stick together LOL, we were the read headed step children in the WRX's world. i never cared for my CGM paint, i would have loved dark blue or red.

i always wished i could play in the snow with mine but we live in the southeast and the best we can do is occassional ice. i had to make do with dirt for sideways funsies.
