I had a call today from a lady friend that had a problem with her kitchen taps. She was having difficulty explaining what the problem was (she was using words like 'do hicky' and 'thingy'
So I asked her to just send me a picture, before I drive 20 miles to see what the problem is.

The problem NOW is, I have received her email, but the picture attatchment from her ipad refuses to download onto my android tablet. The download just runs on and on!

Can anyone help?

I'm not the most Savvy guy when it comes to computers and such devices, so please keep it simple.

1) I wonder if you have a phone or tablet and you've set either the system or the email app to NOT download attachments unless you are on WiFi, to minimize data use.

2) I wonder if the attachment is too large a file size for your email app or email service provider to allow. I think Gmail, for example, caps attachments at 20MB but am unsure.

3) I wonder if the sender "attached" the file not necessarily attached *to* the email as a file, but rather called form an external source like a photo sharing service (just like how we "embed" images in BITOG posts - We do not upload into the message but rather call them from external locations). If it is being retrieved from a photo sharing service, perhaps that service is experiencing temporary issues. Heck, maybe the photo sharing service is blocked by whatever WiFi network you're on!

4) If you're on WiFi make sure your connection is performing properly and hasn't gone belly up.

5) I wonder if the iPad (and therefore Apple's) email app has not attached but has directly embedded the image into the email. This might be a technology that is only friendly towards other Apple products and a few select email apps. Apple has proven they are not above this type of stuff in the past.

So, the questions are:

1) Are you on WiFi and if so, would you happen to know if that WiFi network has any filtering in place? Many employers, for example, block certain web sites on their internal networks.

2) What email app and service are you using? Gmail? Yahoo?

3) Just for giggles, have you tried rebooting your device and pretending none of this has happened yet?

If you're using your email provider's app, you can try using the browser to login and see if that helps.

I have the pictures!

Went to my email servers site, logged in, found the email and attatchment (I could open the attatchment and see the pics)
So, just for fun, I forwarded the email to myself.
This time, it seems, I could open the attatchment without a problem
