GDI Engine Owners - What Oil ?

2.0 EB in 22 Maverick gets 5K full synthetic, currently running Kirkland 5w30 full synthetic.

1.0 EB in 17 focus is getting 5K on castrol full synthetic every 5K.

How many threads can one make about finding oil to use?

Wow that's crazy. I'm all for starting a conversation but dayum

Use CRC or equivalent and redline it it frequently. If you have never redlined a vehicle with 10,000+ miles you need to work up to it. There is no "Proof" that it helps. But I couple years ago my wife's vehicle had not been redlined for months. When i did it I got lots of "smoke"

Things that make you go hmmm.

I had two MB's in 2018--GLC43 with a 3.0TT DI and a C300 with a 2.0T and DI. From a fuel dilution "resistance" standpoint, I tried 3 different brands in each--Pennzoil Euro 0W-40, Mobil 1 Euro 0W-40, and Castrol Euro 0W-40.

Castrol worked best in the 3.0TT and Pennzoil worked best in the 2.0T. The 3.0TT made 2HP per cubic inch so it was a high-performance engine and the Castrol held up well.

I would want to see data that definitively shows that Castrol is a poor performer...
I have been using Castrol 5w40 Euro (the earlier SN and the most recent SP) in my 3.0TT DI benz motors (M276.8 DELA 30). One is over 130K miles and no issues. Always at the factory interval of ~10k mikes.

GDI engine owners : Let’s hear what your oil choice is and especially what your OCI is ? I’m particularly interested in anybody with a GDI engine who exceeds 5K miles for an OCI ?
In my Kia GDI I am running M1 5W30EP with 6K (10K km's) between changes, so far have about 80K miles on it with reasonable oil burning, about .8 litres per 10kms

3K miles OCI

Any motor oil having one or a combination of the following Licenses, approvals or specifications:
API SP / ILSAC GF-6 / dexos1 Gen3 / or latest Euro Approvals.

SP mandatory (well, with a few exceptions)
Viscosity (I won't add to that discussion, but I tend to go thicker than the oil cap)
Vehicle (some engines are easier on oils than others)
Usage (short trip? extended drives? Idling? How often?)

GDI's run on the rich side because if you run it lean the engine will destroy itself.
I run 5w30, 5w40, 0w40, 10w30 and 10w40 in my vehicles and mostly euro cert or HM. I have no problem stepping up in viscosity. It doesn't guarantee anything will be better protected (or does it). Plenty of vehicles out there on 20 weight or lower and going well into 200k mile range without any engine explosions.

So, it leaves us with how long to run the OCI? This one thing I think is more important than brand or viscosity of original oil. That is up to you but I err on the side of caution changing between 5-6 thousand miles. I've been known to change the oil early also.
I limit short trips as much as possible, I will only idle if necessary, I buy top tier fuel and I use premium 93 octane. There is a performance benefit with premium fuel, my vehicles are turbo charged and/or higher compression engines. My little fleet is exposed to spirited driving every day. Sort of an Italian tune-up for fun.

I say drive them and enjoy the ride. Don't overthink anything but the OCI in my opinion. But I do like my oil on thick side.
