Oil Filter: Bosch
Lab: Blackstone (all 6 UOAs)

This is the sixth analysis on this car, newest one is on the right side.

This oil saw one trip home (850 miles each way in a day). My commute is easy with very little stop/go traffic, 20 miles in 30-35 minutes. Thought about changing to MC 5w-20 since Exxon is now $1.79/qt but why mess with success.

More proof the 5w-20 oils don't protect Honda engines.

NOT!

Very nice!

I was getting a little concerned that folks would think I'm a liar when I post my Acura RSX (K20A3) results, but yours are even better than mine. Still, my driving is mostly stop & go, so I don't feel too bad. I think Exxon Mobil's cheapest oil may be better than the blend, and the blend is better than M1. Nice report!

It looks like wear metals are slowly trending down in your engine. Still breaking in?!

And people still think Honda went to 5w20 for CAFE reasons?

Wonder why they are starting to spec 5w20 in Japan now? No CAFE there!

Nice series of reports. Healthy good engine and your insolubles are blowing my mind.
It also shows how settling on an oil can help with trending. I wish I could do that.

And yet they spec 5w30 for the RSX-S. I guess that 5w20 couldn't cut it.

Did anyone else see beyond "VOSCOSITY WARS" to notice that when the sodium went up in the formulation that the insolubles went down?
I find that much more interesting.

Honda's spec'ing 5W-20 in the home market where highest fuel economy is desired. Honda's preferred viscosity range for engine longevity is still 10W-30 over there.

Nope. COOL! Do you think he would make a 2 TBN at 7000 or 7400 miles?

Nice update.

I have a 2004 Civic SI Nighthawk Black, bone stock.

Been running MC 5w20 in the Spring and Summer and switch over late fall to Mobil 1 0w20 for the Winter here in Iowa.

Ran a Mobile 1 filter with MC for the first oil change at 4000mls and PureOne's since.

I try and do the Oil changes at 5000mls.

I did notice the motor got smoother at around 8000k.

I'm impressed by everything I've read on the MC 5w20.

I average 23 total miles per day , mostly highway miles. Short 15 minute commute to a near bye city to my place of work.

Average 28 mpg. avg 280 mls and 10 gallons of gas per fill up.

Presently the Car has a little over 18000 mls on it. The motor is so smooth.

Great car. A little rough riding for my taste in the winter. But fun in the summer to drive.

What filters are you using ?

I think after I run out of my 0w20 and 5w20 Mobil 1 stock. I'll stick to the Motorcraft.

Picked up a 5 pt jug of MC5w20 at WM for 9.44 the other day.

Do you notice your Gas light pop on, yet you have 3 gallons of gas left in the tank ?
Fule gauge comes off full really fast and takes forever in the lower half.

The only gripe I have with the car is the poor traction Michelon tires.

Enjoy and good luck with your Car.

It would be just about at the oils limit IMO depending on the percentage of highway miles. The detergent dispersant package is working well and although some folks may poo pooo the noise it causes on UOA's the Na is impressing this amature.

Thanks Cerbera LM,
Your report gives me confidence in Exxon, 5-20 oils in general, and 5K OCI's in 4qt engines. I just yesterday put 5-20 GTX in my daughters new/used 03 Civic EX.
Old dog / New tricks I guess. We never owned anything that called for 5-20 before.

My local Pep Boys has Exxon at .79 per after case rebate untill 3/25. The coupon pic shows 20-50 wt. though, don't know about other weights.

Does the Bosch filter element use silicon media?
