Kind of confusing since both seem current. The numbers speak for themselves, the Dexos 2 version is a downgrade.

I hope someone finds this helpful.

I am so confused by this oil, but it seems to run good in my cars. The jugs I bought had nothing about Dexos on them though.

I see in elemental analysis that Ca is back up in some UOAs, so I'm trying to work it out. There's not 2 different versions on the shelf, I figured one was a replacement. Both PDS are very recent, so I was surprised to see different formulas.

I see it is obvious now, full and reduced saps versions.... Surely we get the full saps version, but the other one is a unicorn, low FP catches my eye.

Anyway, these are very new pds. I wonder what is up with the current formulations. I will look for the UOAs I am talking about. This used to be a 1700 Ca / 600 Mg oil, but now at 2200+ Ca

I have 3qts left of the full SAPS stuff that I bought last week, I can get date/production codes later if anyone is interested... should I do a VOA?

I am not sure why you are confused. One is ACEA A3 another is C3.
Probably Castrol is introducing oil to replace Castrol Edge 5W40 TDS and Castrol Edge 5W30 C3 as well introduce oil for new Corvette requirements (Dexos 2).
Looks much better than new Mobil1 0W40 ESP.

Quattro Pete clarified, I didn't realize the A3 vs C3 thing.

I was referring to OP.

Since the Dexos2 version never appeared on the US shelves, a current PDS is somewhat confusing.

Does not mean it will not.

OK, I just went to check.
Here are all data sheets available for the US market.
There is no indication of ACEA C3 oil being available.
US Castrol 0W40 Data sheets

C3 oils are common in Europe, and Castrol has different portfolio there (and better one).

dexos2 isn't needed in the USA; you guys don't like diesel cars so only need dexos1.

That is unless the OP has confused dexos1 gen2 with dexos2?

If you search just for "Edge 0W-40", that C3 version does come up for US market.

C3 oils are more dominant in Europe than A3 oils now, in gasoline engines too.
Dexos 2 is required now for Corvette.

For whatever reason I cannot get it.

The link you provided shows that you searched for "Edge 0W-40 A3/B4". If, instead, you search for "Edge 0W-40", you should see all of them:
https://msdspds.castrol.com/msdspds...ricants&unrestrictedmb=No&cols=0

Items 2 and 3 on that list are the C3 version.

Yeah, I typed in 0W40, but did not want to provide any pds.

How can you say it is a downgrade?

Flashpoint of +200C is weak sauce.

Maybe I overreacted to the change in Calcium I saw in recent UOAs. It seems like a step backwards in formulation.
