i know that but i have seen people wash crankshafts or bottom ends on Alfas before, but thats after 30k

I change after bringing a car home that's been run long enough to be at operating temperature.
The drain slows down to the drip every thirty seconds rate in a matter of minutes.
No amount of draining will get the residual oil laying in the engine out.
Enough draining might cause the oil pump to lose its prime, resulting in a nasty dry start.

I let the pan drain for about 15 minutes, allowing time for the oil filter to cool down long enough to get it off. I'll pour a cup from leftover bottles in to rinse and make me feel better. Maybe OCD in that one??? Then fill it up and write it down in my log book. Hit trip meter to 0000.0 and eat lunch. Repeat 5,000 miles or until OLM comes on.

Here we discard gallons and gallons of oil at a time. I did 3 oil changes today and will do more over the holiday weekend.

I like to wait until the drip is a few seconds apart. The full flushing flow is what carries out the bad stuff, those of you with Fumotos take note. You don't want to slow the flow.

I also frequently jack the vehicle in whatever direction accelerates the flow. I imagine it may help!

Wow, Do you check to see the stove is turned off 10x, before leaving the house?

I give it about 20 minutes max.

I drain it until I run out of patience waiting. That doesn't take much more until, as others have mentioned, the drips are a few seconds apart. And, as SteveSRT8 does, I jack the vehicle in the direction that accelerates the flow.

I use to like pouring half a litre through the engine after draining the oil. I use to think it would flush out the head and sump of old oil. Now I just extract it out the dip stick tube, that's good enough!

This isn't funny if the OP is telling the truth, some cars can on occasion LOSE THE OIL PUMP PRIME upon the next start up!


Do NOT do this! Let it drain for up to 20 minutes or so and then refill, button up the car and start it, let it run.

I'm in the habit of letting it drain overnight. This way I don't concern myself with the oil being hot and I jack up the rear corner of the car opposite the drain hole which releases an extra 200 mls I've found.

Draining for 2 days, how do you know you got every drop out. Did you after 2 days, tilt the car forward, backward, side to side and run the engine for a couple hours to ensure to whip out any hidden drops. j/k

I drive till warm, park, pull the plug, then go have a smoke and a drink, maybe lunch, then come back to continue on.

I drain all my oil and fill it up with A jug of supertech oil then drive it for about 15 minutes and re drain. Can't have any residual oil left!

I do just like that for my E430 more than 8-9 years now. Honda S2000 is different story, I could not extract all the oil via the tube, I must use the Fram sure-drain to get another 1/2 - 3/4 quarts from the sump. Also, I raise the passenger side some inches, and let it drain for about 20-30 minutes.

I drain when the engine is warm to hot. Pull the plug and let the oil drain until it slows to ~ 1 drop every few seconds or so. My vehicle has a factory oil cooler so ~ 1/2 quart remains in the engine. Because of this residual oil, my engine will probably not last for more the 250,000 miles. ) This paranoia about getting the last ml out is funny but, really sad when you think how much life is wasted.
