Coffee - Your Current Brew

I just got a new batch from Red Bird yesterday. I stuck with their Sumatra coffee but I added a bag of their Red Bird Espresso blend to try.

This is a Italian roast according to them but there is no oil on the beans. They are dark though. I brewed it up with the Kalitta as I usually do.

The coffee has heavy cereal tones. Super smooth. Low acidity. It has a very clean taste. I used a coarse grind on this one but it might be better with a longer grind. I will experiment around with that.
Nice. Italians are less critical of USA coffee brewing than in the past but "they" say we still like our coffee too oily (think BITOG) - so sounds like Red Bird did well.

So yesterday we were in the Lynden Grocery Outlet. That is the best overstock/discount grocery I have been in.

Took a flyer, 2#'s for $9.99. Not the best Brasil ever, but really really good for the price. It has all the Brasil taste, just not quite as smooth as Talking Crow or Red Bird. I say, not too bad for every day drinking.

I should try Red Bird’s Brazil the next time around. I have heard a lot of good things about it.

We have relatives up in Sumas.

I picked this one up for the packaging...

Blonde joke: what did the blonde say when after receiving the cup of coffee?

Brewed it up tis morning and it is not bad.

I just ordered this, I drank this for a long time. Not bad at $7.50 a pound.

A couple of other good ones.

They have two from Brazil, you want the Brazil Sweet Blue. I just got anther order from them and tried the Brazil Full Bloom and it is not as good, it's ok but not enough to order again.

My problem with them is they roast most all their beans to what the call Rich Medium which is to dark for me, I don't like oily beans.

The other two I ordered are the Carrier Blend and Willow Costa Rica both Medium but to early to tell on these.

Just brewed a batch of single origin from Nicaragua from Old Bisbee Roasters. First batch from this shipment.

I got into home coffee roasting. It's fun and not that hard. The equipment costs anywhere from $150 to $350 (and up) some people make their own roasters out of barbecue rotisseries or heat guns and you buy the green beans on line for about half of what a premium coffee shop would charge for roasted. After about a year it pays for the equipment

I have never liked Folgers, however last month while at Walmart getting great oil deals the clearance aisle had probably 15, 10 ounce cans of Folgers Satin Noir arabic blend marked down to 50 cents each due to the plastic containers being dented. Seals are all fine, just cosmetic blemishes on the plastic cans. Took a chance to try this, bought them all, getting over 150 ounces of coffee for under $8. It's fantastic coffee, certainly as good as anything else on the store shelves, name brands, etc. Retail on this would have been close to $150.

My pot of coffee today cost me probably 5 pennies. Or 1/100th of a cup of coffee at a boutique shop.

Here's the product, and it's about $9 on Amazon. It's an overall 5 star rated coffee with over 1200 reviews on Amazon. 84% give it 5 stars, 10% give it 4 stars. A really nice score for the pantry.

Thanks. I’ll remember that.

A bit of history; Abigail Folger was murdered on August 9th, 1969 in the infamous Manson Murders that also included Sharon Tate. Abigail was a heiress to the family fortune.

I had to replenish my DEATH WISH COFFEE supply. :devilish:

Decided to get this instead of Folgers this go around. Honestly I’ve never tried it but it’s quite good. Seems easier to sweeten than Folgers. Still will get both though.
