Cleaning friction modifiers from a wet clutch

Is there an additive I can add to motorcycle oil that will help remove friction modifiers from the clutch? I suspect the previous owner may have ran automotive oil.

with a correct oil change I think whatever was in ther will be scuffed away in time I would just change oil and get on with it.

you mean "energy conserving" oil

In my bike I ran 15w50 Mobil red cap and it was all good since there was no starburst.


Do a 50 mile oil change?

May want to try an ARX cleaning. Read the Suzuki test over at ARX. ARX has no impact on wet clutches except for cleaning.

Are you having clutch problems?

I run auto oils in all sorts of bikes without problems. I do stay away from the Energy Conserving grades of course.

I pulled my Honda CBR clutches and washed them in mineral spirits.
I accidentally put the wrong oil in and the clutch slipped on hard accell.
Simply changing back to a proper MC oil didn't work for me.

Out of curiosity, what kind of oil caused the slippage?

With mine it was Castrol GTX energy conserving PCMO
A friend had the same experience with Valvoline PCMO

pcmo oil was too thin and didn't have enough additives...
