Chevron with Techron cleans better than other fuel

I have been always using Hess or Victory fuels when filling up my 91 Crown Vic. Just recently did the fuel system cleaning with the Techron concentrate. I just did one treatment of that and started using the 87 octane Chevron/Techron gas. It's interesting that I noticed virtually no pinging and the engine runs smoother. Experimented with Shell gas with the same positive results. It seems like the Chevron does a better cleaning. Out of curiosity I ran a tank of Hess 87' octane and experienced some pinging. Went back to Chevron 87 octane, no pinging and smoother running.
Anyone else experience this too? Is Chevron a top tier fuel?

I've never noticed any difference between brands of gas. If you have any pinging, you might want to look into other potential causes.

Chevron puts the techron additive in their gas (PEA). In smaller concentrations than the bottle of techron concentrate plus you used. Not sure switching to Chevron gas would have enough potency to clean things up in a few tankfuls. So, just use whatever and add a bottle of the concentrate every so often. Probably get the same results for cheaper in the long run.

The Techron Concentrate is the best on the market IMO. It is rebadged and sold as a Hyundai part for install at Hyundai's recommended 7,500 mile intervals in GDI engines, but at the dealer's price of ~$13/bottle I buy the Techron on sale at local vendors for ~$8.

Caution to shoppers: the Chevron Fuel System Cleaner (e.g. commonly on coupon offers at Costco) is not the same product as the Techron Concentrate...stick with the latter for superior engine cleaning.

Is there a Canadian equivalent to Chevron? I can't say I've ever filled up at one of their stations.

When I am in Michigan I usually fill up at Meijer or Shell.

I believe a lot of magazines used Chevron fuels for accurate 0-60 and 1/4 mile times....no variation by using mixed brands.

The pinging is an immediate response to octane variations, or operating conditions.
It is not about the amount of Techron at all.

Techron can over time clean the CC so less octane is needed, but that is a different scenario.

I'd say you should run another bottle of Techron concentrate through.

Why do I say that? Because you've likely not finished the cleaning.

Firstly, if you were using 91 instead of 87, then you had pretty serious deposits to clean.

Secondly, if you are still knocking from regular, the chances are that you're still not clean enough. The 87 octane rating is the minimum. The second tank with Chevron could have been above 87 even though you put in regular.

My OBDII is telling me my octane is 91 when I for sure filled up with 87.

It took me 2 bottles of PEA cleaner to clean up my combustion chamber and I had no pinging or knocking on 87 octane gas. Just low power and poor mpg.

So keep on using the PEA cleaner until you can feel it is not making any more difference.

You can literally feel the car improving as the tank gets used up. For my car, at about half tank and onwards, it was like the relief I got the first time I took pepto bismol!

You could spray a can of intake cleaner thru the intake with engine running and that will get rid of most all of the carbon in just a few minutes versus several tanks of gas with cleaner dumped in.

That's my preferred method...instant clean then any Techron fuel cleaner you dump in the tank can finish it up.

Recently ran 2 tanks with Redline S1, been using Chevron, and just got a smog emission test after those 2 tanks.
It passed and was a little better than the results from 2 years ago. Put a lot of mile on in the last 2 years to.
Good enough for me.

I believe you have this backward. IIRC, Costco sells the Fuel Injector Cleaner, which has only 50% of the Techron concentration of the Fuel System Cleaner (the good stuff). AZ sells both, so make sure you get the right one.
