C-P syn blends - the specs have changed!

Was just looking on the Kendall oils page, and noticed that they have new PDS up for their oils (06/07), and the specs have changed quite a bit - for the worse, it seems.

Their 5w30 and 10w30 always had good cold-temp properties, with their 5w30 being 5,300 cp @-30C; and their 10w30 something like 3700cp @-25C. Also, the oils were a bit thicker than others, both being 10.9cst @100C. Lots of peple on this site liked them for that.

Now, the numbers are worse than most regular 5w30 conventionals (and 10w30's, I'd presume). their 5w30 is now 6200cp @-30C, and their 10w30 is 5900cp @-25C. There are a lot of conventional oils that now beat these numbers - Pennzoil, Valvoline, QS.....no need to seek out these 'synthetic blends for this anymore.....very diappointing!

to me it seemed Kendall was always kind of sub-par.. yeah they came out with some good stuff everynow and then but in the overall picture i would rate them pretty low.. i like blends and i think blends are a step up from dino in some ways.. personally i like durablend and maxlife. they have good #'s on paper and on used oil analysis..

I used 76 5w30, which is the twin of the Trop-Artic and Kendall. It sells below $1.50 a quart here in Oregon. I got pretty decent numbers on my used oil analysis. I read about their formula change a while back on here. So I stopped buying it. I guess Chevron Supreme is the only quality dino around that price range now.

I'm really suprised more people haven't commented on, or been interested in this 'development'. I know that these oils are still 'good' oils that show good numbers, and that their performnace in the winter is probably as good as any other in the real-world, but it is still disappointing that C-P doesn't use more of the 'versatility' that a 50% group III blend can bring - ie keep really good cold-crank specs, as opposed to just average ones....

I bumped this one up because I (like addyguy) have been using some of these C-P oils for their very low cP @ -30 C numbers. I checked the Phillips 66, Conoco, Kendall, and Motorcraft current websites. The only one that has been updated lately was the Kendall (06/07).
I suspect that the other oils in the C-P family may be changing to the higher cP formula as listed on the recent Kendall website. It seems likely that all these oil brands from the same corporation would be very similiar: it doesn't make economic sense that they would all have different base stocks, fomulations, etc.
Can anyone verify whether this group of synthetic blend oils are all basically of the same content?

I appreciate that they are keeping there specs updated. I guess it's a cost cutting thing, maybe less group III.

I'd like to see some used oil analysis now.

Why worry about it? Just put it in your car, change it at a reasonable interval, don't worry about it, and go on with your life. If they changed their formulation, it still has to meet spec. Your engine will not go south on you, or live a shorter life because of this.
