I am curious as to what oil would be best for short OCI's in a turbo application. I like to change my oil, and dont mind paying top dollar for the oil and filters. I usually run 3-5k mile oci's with Amsoil, redline, or GC, along with an Amsoil, K&N, or M1 filters.

- I don't mind the price
- Best protection again heat
- Best start-up protection
- Best to hold its viscosity
- Best filter to go along with the oil
- Best HT/HS
- Not interested in extended OCI's or saving money to do so.
- Just want the "best" all around oil

The motors are a Chrysler 2.4l turbo with 250-260hp/280ftlbs of torque to the wheels, and a supercharged V6 nissan that holds 3.5 quarts.

The 2.4L is drivin pretty hard and is a daily driver, with 3-4 track days(roadcourse) a year. 20 mile commute one way. The Xterra is a daily driver with a 12 mile cummute one way.

I like working on the cars, so changing the oil is a fun Saturday afternoon event for me.

Lets make sure we get some comments about how changing your oil too early is bad..

How filters get better with age..

I don't have any idea how to "not mind the price"

So I'll pass...

Mobil 1 synthetic with Purolator pue one filter. change every 3-5 thousand. This is what I use in my cavalier with full bolt ons w/nitrous running consistent mid 13's at the track. Sleep well at night when using mobil 1 synthetic.

Either stock-up on otc oil or buy AMSoil. Mobil HM line is pretty attractive and could be considered in the "best" catagory along with GC for HP applications...without getting too carried away. Those oils would give the better HT/HS a turbo would require, over a low 30 weight.

In my SRT4 I started out using M1 5W-40 TDT, (which by all accounts is a very robust oil)and a M1 filter. When availability became spotty I started running M1 0-W40 W/ M1 filter. My last change I put in PP 5W-30 W/M1 filter. I plan to run the PP at the next change as well and pull a sample for a UOA. My OCI on all the above is 6k.

If I could consistently find M1 5W-40 T&SUV in the jug I would likely still run that.

thanks for the suggestions, I will research the oils mentioned. will the PP work double duty for the track and daily driving?

The last track event I did, I used redline 10w40. oil temps stayed around 240 degrees, but the motor was way to sluggish for daily driving compaired to what I was use to at the time(TSO). right now I have Redline 10w30 which runs nice, but I wont know the whole story until I get a UOA done.

How would SSO do on the track? is it stable enough to withstand 5-6k rpm's for 30 minutes at a time? Or, is there another Amsoil product that would work better?

I have tried the M1 0w40 and the motor consumed a quart over 3k miles, so I havent used it since.

sometimes is normal for some consumption to occur when switching brands, but normally subsides after a few intervals. If not then, yeah, I would not run it again either

I have the same motor as you and it only used 4oz of oil in a 6k OCI with the M1 0W-40. Granted I did not participate in any road racing events, but I did have several 1/4 mile runs on the oil.

I suggest you give a 5W-40 oil a try, either M1 or Amsoil. I had stellar UOA's from the M1 5W-40 on 6k OCI's. Here is a UOA from 2006, M1 5W-40 T&SUV OCI 6K
