would using a dino 5w20 as opposed to a 5w30 oil be better when using auto-rx? considering 5w20 will have more flow and reach more trouble areas than the 5w30.
what is wrong with the mobil5000? too much detergent or just more mobil-hating on frank's part?
i'll probably go with the cheapest, which seems to be castrol gtx.
is gtx good?
Auto-Rx is not in the oil business. Any oil you want to use is fine with Auto-Rx (some additive packages have more chemistry attributes, than the oil)and these I think you should look at carefully. You want the oil to rinse off the "debris" liquified on the metal from cleaning. High mileage oil is not my choice.
ok got it, low additive oil works best. so oil with higher detergents, dispersants, or seal swellers is a no go with auto-rx.
what about a 5w20 weight being used instead of a 5w30? i understand that 5w20 flows slightly better at operating temperature. would this mean better cleaning since it could carry auto-rx through smaller spaces?
sorry if i offended you with my mobil hating comment frank.
after i posted it i saw that i worded it badly.
I don't think that a low additive oil is inherently good for ARX. Deteregents and dispersants are probably a good idea. I think what you want to avoid is oil and additives with a polar nature that compete with Auto-RX's "scavenging" of debris off of parts and suspending it in oil.
On the 5w20 issue. Probably not much difference. The directions have been standardized so that the intervals are long enough to ensure completion independent of minor variations.
Historically I don't think Frank has been anti Mobil. He has recommended Castrol I think in large measure because it is pretty universally available and I think he has a fair amount of empirical evidence. Not necessarily that Castrol is better than Brand X just that they have seen consistent positive results with Castrol
