Hi. This seemed like the best forum for this question. I have a '12 Jeep Liberty. 3.7 Liter Powertec V6 144,000 miles. I've been using Penzoil Platnum High Mileage 5W20 synthetic for the past year at approx 5,000 mile OCI. I always use K & N filters. I've never had any issues. Oil analysis reports are good. For the most recent oil change, I switched to Valvoline R&P 5W20. My concern is the K&N filter. On the Brand Ranks channel on YouTube they did some tests that indicated K&N can get clogged up fairly easily. Should I worry about this with the Valvoline R&P? I've been considering changing the filter between OCI's. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

You're fine with the K&N filter, especially with 5000 mile intervals. I don't believe that your engine, nor most engines produces as much particulates as the Brand Ranks Test. I also like Brand Ranks videos.
I like and have used most of the upper tier filter that Brand Ranks tests in their videos. Just like you, I've never had a problem. Stay with better the filters as you have been doing and you'll be just fine.

K&N filters are certainly nothing special either, but with 5000 mile intervals, I wouldn't worry. That said, there are no doubt much better filters for less money even. You're (over)paying for the "K&N" name for sure.

@Hall hit it right on. K&N oil filters are using a name to up charge for a mediocre product. A Premium Guard XL built filter is a much better filter. you can get them OTS from AAP as Carquest Premium, Orileys as Microguard Select, AZ (maybe, check the center core to be metal with holes) as STP XL.

K & N get their power by letting in more air. More air is going to bring in more contaminates. Yes, the YT video's don't usually paint a rosy picture on their in house test's & that is something that needs to be thought about. If you don't live down a dusty road or use it in a dusty environment it should be fine if you oil it up properly but changing it that often is no point in what they're built for (reuseable). Due to you changing them just get a quality OEM equivalent filter to replace every 10k or so.

I thought we were talking about oil filters? Me cornfused 🌽

Say bye to the K&N. They are very mediocre trapping performers. You can get almost the same result buying value-priced oil filters.

I currently run Carquest Blue Premium filters. Last time I purchased them, I paid $8.49 and rated real well here at BITOG

DOH! 🤦‍♂️

I thought you went AWOL there for a while but now that you're back you better play catch-up to the rest of my errors...HA! Besides I'm pregnant w/three kids now & worn out.🫃

Yep, I was talking about K&N's bread N butter. Their branding really did me in apparently. 😅 I do wonder when they got into the oil filter business. Since you're friends with the owner do you know?
