Hiltzy,
You make a good pt. Can't find any fault in it. But -
First, I primarily use these brews in my gas. Fuel pump lube, upper cylinder lube, carbon deposit control/clean and in the case of Neutra - atomizing the gas spray for better injection distribution. MMO may be Mystery, but I think it's similar to Neutra - and Schaeffers markets to the industrial world - not to Billy at Wallies (you can pass stuff off on Billy, but not so much on fleet & heavy equip. mgrs). And Schaeffers has a great reputation on BITOG for marketing things straight up w/ full discosure etc.
Second - there are various and asundry reasons to have it in the crankcase (for some of us) - here's how I've historically used it -
If I'm running a 5w30 in my Sienna coming into the winters months (and it does have some consumption) - then around December I'll top it off (up to a qt) w/ MMO. It may all be in my head, but that puppy starts running smoother and has nicer start-ups on cold mornings. I dump the whole fill first sign of Spring. And it may/may not be doing some extra cleaning during the run.
Here's a link to Neutra 131 - from a company that doesn't go the hyperbole route -
