I won't use it either. The first few times I used Marathon it was OK, I thought it would be alright and even posted here about it. Not any more. As much as I would like to support a US owned oil/gas company that as far as I know does not use oil from the Middle East or South America, that last tank of Marathon gas pretty much spooked me away from Marathon. My truck does very well on 7-11 or Shell so I will stick with those from now on. I visit family in Atlanta a few times a year and when I am there I use Quik Trip, never had any problems with them either.

I stopped buying 7-11 gas when it was still Hugo Chavez's Citgo. I never bothered to start buying again.

I started buying QT. It was a Top-Tier gasoline and they had a guarantee in writing. Now the pumps still say "guaranteed gasoline" but the written details are missing. I try to use the same station and same pump when I can and save my receipts. If something in my fuel system goes belly up from overblending, I know where I got it at least and I can test their "guarantee".

I would never buy Citgo either. I would walk first before buying even one drop of Citgo gas. There are still a few Citgo's around here but nearly all of them have been bought out and turned into Marathon stations. I never used 7-11 when they were using Citgo, but 7-11 stopped selling Citgo a few years ago and started selling their own proprietary blend of gas. My truck does run very well on 7-11, I think it could have less ethanol than some other brands of gas but I have no way to know for sure. My family up in Atlanta has a lot of different vehicles: a Pontiac Bonneville, a Jaguar, Land Rover, one Lexus, a restored 1968 Mustang and an old GMC pickup and they all do equally well on the Quik Trip gas. Quik Trip also usually has the best price.

I am resurrecting a really old thread here. In my area, many 7-11 stations are higher priced than Exxon, BP and Shell stations for some reason. It amazes me to see people pumping 7-11 gas in their BMWs and Acuras when the Exxon across the street has premium gas for cheaper. I guess 7-11 gets people with the whole one-stop shop idea; those people don't mind paying more for the gas since they can get a slurpee or taquitos at the same time.

Many say gas is gas and it doesn't matter where you get it from. I think some cars are more sensitive to gas quality than others. My Accord for example has a smoother idle and gives considerably better gas mileage with BP. My Elantra that my brother currently drives has better mileage and idle quality with Shell. My Infiniti on the other hand performs the same with any gas. Premium fuel is recommended and I experimented with both reg. and prem. from many stations and noticed I got the same mileage and performance with any gas. The knock sensor adjusts to grade of gas so I just run reg. 87 w/out any noticeable issues. My 2013 Pilot is new so I run the cheapest gas I can find. When it gets to around 40k mile+ I'll only run the brand name stuff to keep a clean system. All stations around here have 10% ethanol so I just deal with it. All these findings are based off the detailed records I keep with every fill up in all my cars.

Recently filled up a '12 Sonata rental at a 7-11 near the Orlando airport. The price there ($3.57) was much more to my liking than the Suncoast Fuel station (whatever that is) at $5.79. Car ran just fine going down the road to the airport.

Some people think "you get what you pay for", so they figure the higher priced gas is better, just like people who put premium gas in cars that do not call for such and therefore do not get any benefits from it. Convenience is probably also a factor.

I had been using Sam's Club gas in my Jeep. Recently I found a Shell Station that is priced at the same level as sam's and started using that. I felt an immediate smoothing out of the motor.
I have a part time job at a convenience store hat is a high volume station. The company has over 75 stations and owns their own oil company.
I asked the district manager why they still add ethanol to the fuel since it is no longer mandatory or subsidized. He said they use a lower octane "chub" gas and add ethanol to bring the ethanol to bring the octane level up to an acceptable number.
Don't know if that makes sense.

There are as many dumb people driving Benzes and BMWs as anything else, regardless of the image that the marketing people would like to create.

For 3 years now I've been gassing up at a convenience store in a suburb near me that offers ethanol-free gas. So their signs and pumps say, and when I'm forced to use a Chevron or Exxon station's fuel, my gas mileage does drop. So I'm guessing the right convenience store can be just fine. It all depends on how your car runs with the fuel.

I use RaceTrac 87 octane in my cars and zero problems.
I use a bottle of Redline once a year to clean.
