Hi everyone! New guy here. I recently got a new used 1991 S-10 (for free!) with 178,000 miles. The previous owner, my Father in Law, always ran Quaker State dyno in it and the truck has never given him a bit of trouble. I am tempted to stick with that since it seems to have worked well so far. Thought I would get some other opinions, however. I use the truck for a lot of short trips. Mostly just Lowe's and Home Depot type runs and I drive it easy. Any advice would be appreciated!

My father has a '95 S10 with 190k on the clock. His 6 month OCI normally consists of Peak 10W-30 or 5W-30 and a Purolator filter.

I don't think any oil is bad for these as long as it's the correct viscosity. Valu Home centers here in NY have sales on 5qt jugs of peak for $7.99 after MIR.

Well... for '94 and later, the S10 4cyl is the same 2.2 from the Cavy, Corsica, Century... Just longitudinal.

But, since the OP never mentioned cylinders, he could have a 4cyl -- being a '91 would make it the 2.5 Iron Duke or if a 6cyl it could be the the 2.8 or 4.3.

Sorry I didn't mention it. It's the 2.5 4 cylinder Iron Duke, mated with a 5 speed manual. It's not amazingly fast, but my Father in Law says it has more power then the 2012 Tacoma he bought to replace it.

I can't say anything bad about them. Good little trucks.

My dad put a Torsen Zexel in his and with Firestone Winterforce, 400lbs in the bed, the thing goes through snow no problem.

The Torsen is an interesting limited slip design.

That was my thought as well. I've always used Pennzoil, but I think I will stay with Quaker State for this vehicle. Thanks for all of the responses everyone!

I don't see anything wrong with switching to PYB if you're a Pennzoil guy.
