2022 wrx

Don't disagree with 90 percent of your post. Not trying p to put your kid down, bud. The fact that you're sending to college in a 40k car shows your trust in your upbringing. The fact that he's attending college shows he listened and made it to college.

Not questioning any of that....what I question is the new wrx platform and the entire wrx community that's full of bad influence.....and a load of bad advice. Don't even get me started on SOA oil recommendations and the choice of transmission.

I just offered a bit of advice based on countless friends I have working for Subaru coupled with building them, racing them, owning them.

Basically, I don't sugar coat anything. I'm abrupt and to the point.

I want my fellow gearheads and their families to enjoy trouble free motoring and not rely on dealers denying warranty work for every insignificant, unrelated, minute thing like I seen in the past.

Case and point, I'm waiting on a 2021 outback xt with a blown engine. Denied warranty work due to using 0-40. This is the second engine in that car under 40k miles. First engine was dealer serviced using 0-20, covered under warranty. This is a family that has the 21xt, a 20xt, and a Ascent. The 20xt is on 2nd engine itself, all dealer maintained. The Ascent has 0 issues and it's the highest mileage in the fleet.

Subaru is not what it once was. IMHO, quality control has gone wayyyyyyyyy downhill.

Good luck to you.
But, if they used conventional oil instead of 0W40, apparently it would be fine.
What a horror.

How much this version dumps? It is important as if it is drastically less Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W30 is excellent choice!
I don't have specific numbers, however the info I get from close friends that work in dealers, they base it on smell, except one. They work anywhere between NH, VT, Cali, Florida.

Jackie is the tech that works in Cali. She stated that it's MINISCULE compared to previous versions of the FA. Can't quote numbers, I don't want to lie to you as it's been a few weeks since we talked. This is her personal wrx as well as customers that she sent in samples to Polaris labs. She spends more money on Polaris than anyone should. Her theory is injection timing and tuning.

What I'm getting back that's concerning on them is small end of rod issues. Weird since fa24dit is supposed to have better rods.

What they are starting to see

According to the manual and SOA, yes. The car I got coming in, the owner spent hours on the phone explaining the entire situation....their answer was...YES, they would have covered it if "topped off" with 5-30 conventional.

First motor popped on 0-20, this one on 0-40. One covered, one not.

At this point, I'd rather trust my SOHC 300k plus mile 2.5ej than the new offerings.

As a Subaru/Ford fanboi....I'm tired of getting my "richard" kicked in by my gearhead/racing buddies. I'm finna LS swap everything.

How are they with IVD? Bcs. PPE L would be good.

How they determined it is 0W40?

IVD's don't matter if the motor keeps blowing up.

Didn't speak about that subject in that conversation. Don't want to lie to you. My experience in my own 16wrx was regardless of oil spec, ivd still occurred the same.

Then go Mobil1 0W40 from your local Wal Mart.

If you are going to argue and try to prove your point with someone, at least have the decency of reading their comments in the thread, and more importantly, don't make things up. I have already explained why I am not going to use M1 0W-40 in this thread.

I saw it.
You are deviating from recommended grade, but still want to use inferior rating to approvals M1 0W40 carries, or any oil that is approved for same specifications.
I am not arguing with you, but ILSAC GF6 is energy conserving specification with inferior limits to any European approval oils like M1 0W40 carry.

If you really want something more, but lighter then M1 0W40:
Castrol - 152B99-6PK 06244 Edge A3/B4 0W-30 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 1 Quart, 6 Pack https://a.co/d/1RP34Wz

By the way, who is making things up? What are you talking about?

You want advice here. Here you go.

My son purchased a 22 WRX Limited with the SPT/CVT in May. I offered my advice of purchasing a manual transmission but he went the other direction....his money....his decision. Overall I have been impressed with the car. It handles well and it shifts well, at least in the sport modes. As for oil choice, I think he is going to stick with 0w20 for warranty purposes. He has a little over 3k on it and is planning a change at around 4k. We have been monitoring the oil level for fuel dilution and have not seen a rise in the level as of yet.

There was a video Subaru put out for the last gen that had a pro rally car driver testing the CVT version. Her preferred it to the manual.

Nope. Sorry, but the Camry TRD, turbo 3 cylinder corolla, a few Kia models, accord, Mazda 3/5 turbo......all absolutely demolish the 22wrx with a cvt in acceleration tests.
The extra cc of the WRX 2.4T? Will result in more usable power and improved MPG than the sub 2.0T vehicles.
