Looking for xtended OCI oil for WRX.

Posting this on behalf of a co-worker and her husband.

Car is 200x WRX (not sure the year, maybe 4 years old) 100K miles, commute is 75 miles one way highway; car has seen diet of YB and Valvoline conventional; 5K OCI. Consumption 1qt/5K. No spritied drving. Southern New England weather.

Looking for suggestions for extended drain oils; Poking around it appears not too many people extend OCI on these cars. Car appears to like thicker oil. I'm thinking GC, RTS or Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30; I might pitch Amsoil ATM or ACD, but WW availability is a plus.

Would PP be a good 8K oil? And is it prudent to extend the OCI on these cars?

WRX engines are hard on oil, I would try either Mobil 1 High Mileage or Maxlife full synthetic 10w30 and extend OCI to 8-10k miles, because 150 miles highway miles round trips.
 
I have had 2 WRX's and an STi over the past 7 years and have tried out many oils in all of them... It's true, the oil takes a beating in these engines and 5w30 oils don't do so well based on used oil analysis I had done. My driving habits were way different than yours however. 3,500 OCI, weekend driven, tracked 3-4 a season. Shearing was problematic across the board from many different co's (RP 5w30, Mobil 1 5w30, Chevron Syn. 5w30, Castrol Syn 5w30).

From personal experience the Rotella T synthetic 5W-40 works great in the turboed horizontally opposed engines but since I'm a bit of a Mobil fanboy, I recommend Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 @ 7500 OCI

If you want over-the-counter, go Rotella T Synthetic 5w40, GC, or Mobil 1 0w-40.

Don't use 5w30 because of fuel dilution, especially for long drain.

My personal favorite is Mobil 1 0w-40 because it actually has the Euro long OCI specs like BMW LL and Porsche/MB generally recommends longer OCI than domestic/Japanese and Mobil 1 0w-40 meets those specs as well. ACEA A3 is an extended drain spec as well. Same thing for GC but GC is a little bit harder to get than Mobil 1 0w-40.

But MOST IMPORTANTLY, check often and make sure it is not run low. I think a lot of people miss this point!
 
I completely agree with SilverGGA, if it were my vehicle and I was looking to start running extended OCIs, I'd personally look for Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 or Mobil 1 0w-40
 
No extension of 5k oci. Leave it alone. It's gonna be your fault when it grenades.
 
Mobil 1 0w40, GC, Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W/40, Red Line 5w40, AMSOIL 5w40 or Rotella T Synthetic 5w40. I would stay away from Edge, especially since we can only get 5 or 10w30 here in the U.S.A., correct? If you are doing 150 hwy miles a day then 5-7.5K miles should be fine. If you want to spring for a couple of used oil analysis then you will know if you can push it further. I am no Subie expert but I have heard that low oil level and sustained lateral forces can be very bad. That may not be a problem that you would encounter however. Good luck with whatever you choose.
 
Edge is too thin for this motor. This engine needs the strongest high temp oil out there, RL. A group v oil. I would still only go 7500 on it.
 
Pick a 5w40 oil and run two 6,000 miles oci and do a used oil analysis on the second change. Look at the wear number from the used oil analysis and adjust your OCI accordingly.
