2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2.7L High-Output Turbo Engine Oil Recommendations

Thank you, so basically if the consumer does not care about the performance target for fuel economy they can go ahead an run 5W30. So there is nothing to worry about with the AFM regarding grade?

I'm not trying to lead into an AFM discussion, just to verify that the engineers themselves would generally run a higher grade in these engines. Thanks very much.

The recommended oil is 5W-30. I don't under the comment about not caring about fuel economy?

GM is a pretty flat company. In the video above Kevin the assistant chief, his boss, and the team make the decision. They have performance targets for fuel economy, power, cost, complexity, operational range. etc. You can add technology, or you can reduce oil viscocity (For free). As long as the engine passes validation with acceptable wear, the oil is good enough. Likewise, the standard oil has to be work in very large temperatue range. If you start your car in a garage, and run at higher temperatures, higher viscocity is a better choice.

The 6.2 runs 0w20 in truck applications. Same engine on the track can run a 15w50.
Same goes for the 6L LS and 6.6 LTs in the 2500 & 3500s. 5w30 on the oil fill cap, but I’ve used everything from 0W40 to 15W40 in those engines.
The best thing about the HDs is; no cylinder dropping, start stop or fake engine sounds generated by the stereo.

When summer gets here im going to try a 0w40 most likely Mobil

Unless anyone has any ideas on a 5w30 that seems to consume less

Not worried about fuel mileage my only concern is at the amount of oil it is burning may cut down on the emissions system life

I know exactly how many quarts I've topped of with at 42k so far 6.5 quarts since brand new

Delvac 0w40 was my go to back when it was Esso XD-3.
imo, it’s superior to the pcmo offerings

Since this thread was posted, I asked a neighbor who owns one. He uses SuperTech Advanced 5W-30 every 5k miles. 65k miles and no consumption or visible varnish inside the fill hole or on the dip stick.

I bought a '25 L3B in December. Just did the first OC @1200 miles. First, I'd like to thank the gorilla at gm who tightened the filter. Wasn't sure which would break first: my craftsman band strap wrench or my hernia.

Truck got one qt M1 & a jug of Pennzoil Platinum with a PF66 filter

Gotta love it. My last 3 new cars were like that. I had to use a breaker bar to get the Nissan filter off of my wife’s 24.

I was pleasantly surprised when I did the first oil change on my 2018 Corvette as the oil filter and the drain plug didn’t take much effort to remove. It was as if I had done the installation of those things 😃 Every other new car I have owned (mostly GM) has had those on super tight!

?? Yes exactly.

Actually it was ‘70s Mobil 1 that was inadequately additized which was the issue. By the ‘80s it was no longer a problem.
So you're telling me, in the 1980s you switched two, used, 1970s, American cars, to Mobil 1, and didn't get leaks? If that is what you are saying, you are going to federal prison for the charge of: "lying on the internet."

Absolutely. It was sold at the local Mobil station and if I recall correctly it was about $5 a quart. I was moving to Milwaukee for college and it seemed like a good idea for the winters there. Mobil advertised it as a suitable replacement for 10W-40 which is what I was using at the time.
