2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2.7L High-Output Turbo

Can I have some recommendations on engine oil for use in the vehicle above? I am looking to have the truck for an extended time I have already had a couple of oil changes on the truck. The truck has 14461 miles on it right now, and I am going to do another oil change in the next couple of days. I have used Mobil 1 in the past on numerous vehicles that I have owned. This is the first turbocharged vehicle I have owned. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using qs 5w-40 in my under warranty 2021 with the 6.2. I'd definitely use a euro rated 30/40 grade in that turbo engine. Any SP rated one will do. You can order m1 0w-40 on walmart.com. It's difficult to get in store, it's usually sold out at mine.

Anything that is approved for MB229.5 or MB229.51/52.

I'd use Mobil 1 5w-30, or if you can find it easily and its not too much more money, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30.

Once out of warranty, the Mercedes 229.5 (such as Mobil 1 0w40).

The chevy dealer will never uoa an engine or scrutinize receipts. I've been running 0/5w-40 in my 2021 for years and It's still under pt warranty.

How is the vehicle used and what climate? I wouldn’t suggest extended drain intervals either follow the OLM or max 5-6,000 miles if you’re doing hwy. shorten the interval if you do a lot of short trips towing or using the vehicle as what your owners manual would consider severe. Mobil 1 is a great choice a long with all the major brands that are dexos gen3 5w-30 is recommended

As a general rule, a clean, robust 30 viscosity oil, when temperature managed correctly, is darn near an ideal viscosity for heavily loaded modern engines and is the perfect viscosity for chain life.

Where and how do you drive the truck?

Also as a general rule, the wider the viscosity spread, the more VII's are in the oil, and the faster/more the oil will shear down a grade over time. Even with the best Viscosity Index Improvers (VII') oils such as 5W-50 shear to a 40 or less in short order in high stress applications.

Add in the heat of a turbo and the load of towing, and a robust synthetic oil with a higher HTHS (high temp high shear, viscosity at 300 deg) is a smart choice.

One possible choice is Mobil 1, 5W-30 ESP, with its higher HTHS of 3.5 (vs 3.0 for most 5W-30's) and slightly higher viscosity than typical M1 products. AND frequent oil changes.

In Florida, I might choose M1 10W-30 or the EP version, just for its shear resistance.

M1 ESP

I have the same engine in my Colorado ZR2. First oil change was with QS FS 5w-30. I did a Blackstone UOA on it which is posted in that section of the forum. Next oil change was M1 EP 5w-30 which I plan on sticking with for 5k OCIs.

Getting ready to send a sample off to Blackstone today. I'll post the results when I get them.

Mine has been running Castrol GTX 5w30 full syn for 35k miles PF66 filters

These trucks will burn about a half quart at 3k sometimes more dependant on driving and load ..... so I have learned to top off at 3k and change at 5k this is usually about 100 hours of runtime and at least 1.5 hours of idle each day the truck is used summer or winter

On deck is bag in box Castrol GTX full syn

I have considered running the EDGE EURO 0w40 that I keep for the Mercedes to see if it uses less at the 3k mark

Most never put anything heavy in their pickup beds. I've seen so many bed covers that are 10-15 years old and look almost new.

So without weight, that pickup is nothing more than a soccer mom grocery shopper with plenty of power to spare

m1 esp available at walmart thicker 30wt than usual.
Carries some nice approvals.

or even a 5w40.
Maybe Its just me, but I'm not a fan of 20wt in turbo engines. (my fa24dit for example) M1 esp is about as thick as you can get without at 40wt.
