I just bought a 21 Silverado with the 2.7l turbo and was wondering if anyone is running Rotella t6 5w-40? The know heat kills oil and turbos make a lot of heat and have always run 5w-40 in my diesels but this is my first gasoline turbo engine so I wanted to see what you guys thought

Lspi could be an issue with a non lspi friendly blend like t6 in a turbo gdi engine but it's good to use something a bit better than regular dexos oil.

I'd use something with an sn plus or sp rating and there are dual rated diesel oils with those. But I'd prefer to use something like mobil/castrol/pennzoil 0/5w-40. Valvoline and quakerstate 5w-40 are good too as I'm using QS 5w-40 in my 2021 with the 6.2. Get any of them online at walmart with free shipping. A lot of the times they're out of stock so I'd just order.

Good easy to get options.

Thank you! I appreciate the info!

If it were my truck I'd probably go with a Dexos rated oil. They tend to be pretty robust and easy to find. The truck was designed with the turbo so sufficient cooling systems should have also been designed in. The only time i would differ would be if I know I was going to punish the vehicle with heavy towing.

The Euro A3/B4 engine oils may have higher SA levels than many of the CK-4/SN’s.
Have a look at Delvac and Delo 5w40 for a couple of good mixed fleet options.

No real plans to punish the truck with any heavy towing or anything like that but I do live in the hills of WV so lots of small steep grades and the 10ish miles from work is a 30minute ride. Thank you guys for all the recommendations!

I'm more weary of the timing chain and cam phaser wear in the long term. Gm doesn't have a history of doing this well in their dohc vvt engines both na and turbo and I wouldn't care to find out if gm does it well now or not. Euro oils are much better in controlling and reducing that wear so I would invest in some timing component insurance especially since it's about the same price now. If I owned a turbo gdi engine that I intend to own for the long run I'd be changing it at under 6k and using better than oe filters like a purolator boss.

What ever oil I run it will be changed at 5k it’s easiest for me to remember and I’m not putting a ton of miles on a year anyway also do you all have a filter recommendation I forgot to ask I was planing on running the ac Delco but I wouldn’t mind running anything that’s better

Yea I’ve just always run Rotella t6 in my diesels that’s why I referenced it differently not set on it usually when I change my wife’s or relatives oil I run pennzoil full synthetic but wanted to ask because none of them are turbocharged

GM developed a test for turbo protection.

AC Delco filters are fine for 5k … have run and cut many and never a flaw inside the can … Folks constantly say the ADBV is nitrile - but technically it’s AEM …
The PRV psi can be higher on GM filters …
