2011 Hyundai Elantra 1.8L Engine Oil Filter - Want a longer oil filter.

I found one signifigantly longer filter that is a compatible fit, the NAPA Gold 1344 aka Wix 51344 aka Baldwin B161S. However, it's filtration is not as good as the NAPA 1334.

I'm going to continue using the stock size NAPA Gold 1334 filter. I think it's the best option for Hyundai 1.8L. It's same dimensions as a stock OEM Hyundai filter, but the NAPA Gold 1334 is slightly heavier, which suggests a thicker can. NG 1334 also has finer filtration than OEM Hyundai filter.

For some vehicles it's possible to find a good, compatible filter that's longer than stock (as I did for Jeep 4L and Buick 3800). For those vehicles, a longer filter is an effective $1 upgrade that increases filter capacity (typically by around +40%).

However, for many vehicles there is not a good option for a longer filter. For Hyundai 1.8L there is no good option for a longer filter. So I think the best filter available for Hyundai 1.8L is the one I'm already using, which is NAPA Gold 1334. It's normal size, but has thicker can and better filtration than any other option that I know of.

What's strange about that filter is that it says made in S. Korea, and also says Mann+Hummel on it.
I think it was as you said ^ about NAPA Gold 1334. However, I think it's now made by Premium Guard in Vietnam because seeing it (and its box) in person looks same as other NAPA Gold filters made by PG. NAPA is poor at updating its website info. There's lots of out dated info on NAPA's website.

The NAPA 1334 was installed 3 weeks ago. It'll be on there a while. I'm not going to dissect it. It's not a good use of my time or money. For one thing, I'm handicapped. I'd have to pay my cousin to do it. We have more important things to do and too little time when he's here. Also, other people have dissected NAPA Gold and other PG EX type filters many times already. I do appreciate your enthusiasm though.

Throw a bunch of paper towels in a Ziploc box it up and send it to @53' Stude and he will cut them apart and post pictures. At least you will know if there are any carbon issues or other junk that may be of concern in your particular motor. Think of like that nasty Sequoia filter. ;)

I sent him some of mine when I didn't have time/energy.
 
Please Note : The Premium Guard oil filter web site has a standard and extended drain oil filter models showing for my Hyundai 2.4L DI engine with zero earnings or restrictions .

When Napa Gold filters made by Wix (M&H) some of the specific 1334 filters were made in S Korea and looked very similar to the Hyun/Kia OEM filters. Likely has/had to do with the fact that at least at one point Mann/M&H was manufacturing the Hyun/Kia OEM filters in S Korea. I'm thinking possible some of the Wix 51334 may still be made there, they were a well made filter.

As for topic, the 9688 and other OE equivalent application (5/1334) oil filters are plenty big enough for Hyun/Kia vehicle applications. No bigger/longer filter is needed or required and beyond warm fuzzies would provide no useful benefit. And with all the past Hyun/Kia past warnings about using aftermarket filters, using the spec size to maintain a filter warranty, best practice imo.
