What's the difference between NAPA Gold vs Platinum oil filters? Which is equivalent to Oreilly Microgard Select?

I did search the topic, but the only thread I found was from 2014. I'd appreciate some current info. Thanks

Gold is PGI made like Microgard Select. As far as I know the Platinum is still a M+H product with horrible efficiency. Someone will correct me if it’s changed.
You're correct. While you were posting this ^ I was reading on Napa's website.

The Gold is made by PGI. Napa doesn't say that, but their website photos of Gold oil filters look very similar to Oreilly Microgard Select.

The NAPA photos of the Platinum filter look similar to Wix XP. Also the "synthetic media" they quote sounds like WXP. The Napa text state's Platinum is made by Wix.

So all evidence confirms what you said. So I'll go for the Gold. Terrible pun intended.

Reactions: GW.
Napa Platinum is the same as Wix XP. Both sacrifice significant filtering ability to gain a long change interval. Not worth it.

Napa Gold is the same as regular wix. Typically filters 95% of particles 20 microns or larger with a few exceptions. Before the recent merger these were always good quality filters with no shenanigans. I have not had my hands on them in a few years so I can't say if they have changed.

I agree that the Napa Golds are starting to look like Premium Guards with the red sealing gasket and shiny red anti-drainback valve, at least the 1372. If that's the case, they're solid, would recommend.

I agree with that ^ now that I'm up to speed.

For awhile now Napa Gold have been made by Premium Guard. Good stuff.

So Napa Gold is much better than Platinum. Yessiree

The Wix XP and NAPA Platinum use to have the same filter guts, so probably still are the same unless something has changed recently.

The NAPA Gold now appears to be the same as Oreilly and Carquest Premium, only more expensive, as NAPA prices around Raleigh NC have really increased lately.
For my 2009 Mazda Miata, the Carquest and Oreilly are $9.99, but the NAPA Gold is $13.49.

If you really want to save some money, on your next purchase at RockAuto, add the Premium Guard XL's (exact same filter) to your cart. Shipping shouldn't change much and you can get them for less than $5 each.

I’ll have to put Napa Platinum on my list if I ever buy another oil filter and they kept the old manufacturer for it.

To add ... that can depend on what part of the country you're in.

Outside of BITOG, I doubt the needle would move of any significance if you educated every NAPA Gold user that they were they same
