Sister's car. Protege, 1.5L DOHC. She will be doing 3-4K every 6 months in college. I plan on changing her oil every 6 months with a PureOne. The MaxLife and SuperTech Sync are the same price in jugs at Wallys. Which should I use? The car never saw sync before.

How old of a car. 3 to 4K sounds like alot of stop and go to me. Maybe do a UOA to make sure your her plan is holding up then go from there. As far as Oil I think any good quality oil will do. Havoline has been getting rave reviews here and I will probably try it when I change out my engine.

I'd run the Maxlife 5w30 in the winter, 10w30 in the summer. It looka like you have a 10 yr car(or I should say your sister) and the HM oil helps out.

ST full syn is hard to beat for the price.

I ran it for 2 years in my wifes' GC 3.3 . Was very satified with it. Running M1 10/30 now bacause of the pepboys 3 free coupons. I still have 10 quarts of ST 10/30 on the shelf, I'll use it in my sons' car when the ARX rinse id finished.

Maxlife is 12-18% PAO syn, though not marketed as a blend. Go with it. I have used it and works well for me. I use the Syn version now.

5/30 or 10/30 will work, it won't matter, especially if she is going to college in Texas.

Use Super Tech Filter to save a trip to get the Pure One Filter.

Change her PCV valve and fuel filter and decarbonzine her combustion chambers with SeaFoam while you are at it.

The Protege will run great!
