YouTube - I'm out...

Ad blockers work fine on AdTube on the PC but not on mobile devices. Someone suggested Opera but Opera fir mobile is built on the Apple Web Kit and isn't really Opera. Ad blockers seem to have little or no effect on ads on Opera for mobile.

I was unaware that the ad blockers stopped working though.
Yup.

A colleague on a computer site where I am a member posted about this yesterday, he said if you right-click a YT video and open it in a new window there is only one ad that plays for just a split-second, then it skips to the video. I tried this myself and it does seem to work, but who knows for how long.

I do not have a YT Premium or other YT account but I do sign in to YT with my Google ID and password. I have been viewing YT videos in Firefox on Linux Mint with Ublock Origin on default settings and I am not seeing the ads or the ad blocker warning popup window. I also don't see any of that in Vivaldi with the built in Vivaldi ad blocker set to "block all ads and trackers". There is no telling how long that will work either.

I only use YT to watch music videos, and most of my viewing is just if I run across a band or song online that I want to check out. I have yet to see any of the ads or ad blocker warnings in Youtube Music. I try to limit my interaction with Google as much as possible. If this YT ad blocker thing goes much further I may stop using YT and switch to Spotify. I would pay for Spotify long before I would pay anything for YT.

There is more to life then YT, try the YMCA,or biking, or ride a motorcyle, take up painting your home, go to night school, meet new turkeys........
The turkeys come around when they feel like it… and what else am I going to do while painting the house or working out, do so in silence? Gotta have some music or something on in the background!

I think I tried to download that. If I remember, Brave doesn't like Macs.

I'm thinking about trying 1Blocker Premium to see if that blocks YouTube.
I don't know about a Mac computer but it definitely works on iPhone and iPad. It has blocked 11,000 trackers and adds for me this month. Over 1,400 just on YouTube.

Interesting. I've really only ever used YouTube to find specific repair videos. The ads are annoying but tolerable in order to get the content. I understand the creators get a cut.

How did the ad blockers used to work, did you have to sit there looking at a blank screen for 3 minutes instead of watching ads?

1000% agree YouTube without an ad blocker or YouTube Subscription is unwatchable.
Occasionally one of the kids will show us a video on YouTube through our TV. The # of ads is outrageous and I don't know how people tolerate using YT like that but to 90% of people, it's actually "normal".

YouTube Premium is well worth it and by far the service I utilize the most. Not just videos, but music as well.

This. People might gripe about $13/mo, but I continue to see LONG, LONG, LONG lines at each and every Starbucks. YOU might not be spending outrageous amounts of money at Starbucks, but I bet your offspring or spouse do, with your household's income. A lot more than $13/mo.

I forget that I have Youtube Premium, ad-free. I assure you that if you watch a decent amount of Youtube videos, it's worth it, 100%.

AdBlock in Firefox still works for me on my PCs

I just don't willing give Google money when I don't need to
Firefox and Adblock plus still works for me. I get that stupid pop up on occasion but all you need to do is close Firefox, open it back up, and it will go away again. Unlike Chrome, Google can't manipulate anything in Firefox. Yet another reason why not to use Chromium based browsers.
