YouTube - I'm out...

If you don’t like ads pay for it, 😭 . $18.99/month is pocket change vs ownership costs of a Audi RS….

That being said the $18.99/month is excessive. I would think $9.99/month.
AdBlock in Firefox still works for me on my PCs

I just don't willing give Google money when I don't need to
They are slowly blocking everything . Likely hitting the largest audiences first in terms of blocker and browser. Coming soon….

A good thing to check in your Safari Browser on your Desktop is this.
Apple does provide fairly robust privacy compared to all the alternative systems.
It's also offered on your iPhone settings.

I guess I have I-cloud+ ? if others dont see "hide my IP"
I pay $1 a month for extra storage and I assume that is part of "plus"

Try dropping chrome and using firefox or anything not controlled by google. All the reports I'm seeing so far is that the popups are happening in chrome, and firefox + ublock/adblock still works fine.
On Firefox with the AdblockPlus extension, it tries to play the ad and the video goes black for about 5 seconds, then the main video starts to play. Better than no ad blocking I guess.

Interesting, I'm running firefox + ublock and haven't noticed a single change.

Might just be a cat and mouse game, maybe we just need to give more time for the ad blockers to catch up. As long as the youtube player in the webpage is the code that merges the ads into the video, there will be a work around.

If they inject the ads into the actual stream/recording on the server before sending it out to you, then the ad content will be indistinguishable from the video content and then there is no work around.

But right now, I believe the way it works is that the video content comes from one server stream, and the ads come from another stream, and the video player in the webpage merges them together. That's why they can be blocked because the blockers refuse to load content that comes from the ad streams/urls.

I did notice today that the 5 second black-out I described is now gone ... weird, but now back to ad blocking like it was before.

I can see paying for a service that I use regularly, but considering all the sketchy random lowbrow clickbait crap that's all over YouTube that I may click on for giggles, I'd rather not have my viewing history being associated with a name and account, especially since they are associated with the privacy nightmare that is Google. So for me, personally, I'm not going to pay YouTube for the convenience of not seeing ads. They make a gazillion dollars from advertisers so they don't need my $13.99 per month, which in itself is insane. I'd rather (and probably should) give that to Wikipedia.

YouTube can complain all they want about people using ad blockers. Too bad.

No it won't, not for long anyway.
The only thing that is now working for me (for Chrome in Windows) is to open a New Incognito Window (inside the three dots), then...
1. In a new Incognito window, go to chrome://extensions.
2. Find the extension that you want to use in Incognito mode.
3. Click Details.
4. Turn on Allow in Incognito, and then enable the extension.
Do this for uBlock, Adblock, and any other extension that you want to use in an Incognito Window.
When you view a YouTube in an Incognito Window the ads will be gone, for now.
This technique is working for me 100% right now.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Google knows more about you than YOU do. I promise. And they don't need your name or an 'account' with them.

They know exactly what you watch on Youtube, whether you're signed into a Google account or not.

is this thread about first world problems?
Yeah...and among those first world problems is being hit with a never-ending raft of computer program add-ons many say are needed. I feel it's impossible to know which to buy because reviews are all over the place.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for optimizing performance but you never know what you're paying for and I'm loathe to giving my credit card info to every creepy, non-staffed website (which employs 'auto-pay') claiming to fix my computer woes.

Case in point: I can't get straight answers regarding which anti-virus / security / remote site (VPN?) thing to buy.

Who complains about 5-10 seconds of ads?
I don't think anyone here is complaining about 5-10 seconds of ads. If the ads were 5-10 seconds this thread wouldn't exist. Like I stated before, if there were 15 seconds of ads at the beginning of every video, fine. I've watched 5 minute videos that had 7 minutes worth of ads sprinkled throughout the video, which just ruins the user experience in favor of profits. Before ad blockers and Youtube Premium really became popular you would see comments below the videos complaining about how long/frequent the ads were in relation to the video length.

If that is all you see on YouTube you have bigger problems than.....................
Searched properly YouTube has wealth of great programming. You just have to dig through the fluff and dander. Lots of folks won't pay for YT Premium but will pay $40 for a 1/2 pound steak dinner out.
