Your Favorite Oils...

Pennzoil, Motorcraft, Castrol. Although, any name brand oil changed at 4,000 mile intervals will allow the engine to outlast the rest of the car.

Johnny....I noticed you put down Petro-Canada as one of your favourites....is there something special we should know about this oil? If you recommend it, you usually have a good reason, with your knowledge of what goes in many oils......

Let's see, I am gonna have to put some thought into my answer on this one.

My first choice, "Hands-Down, would have to be Motorcraft. I love there 5W-20, I also use their 5/10W-30. And also there 15W-40, for which I use in all my air-cooled's, my Kubota RTV-900R, and my '84 VW Rabbit L Diesel. What can I say I have about two and a have cases of it left in the garage, I had six at one time. Gotta love wal-mart. Got it all for seventy-five cents a quart.

My second choice would be TropArtic

And my third would be what ever is on-sale.

In the 40 weights, Rotella synth 5w-40 or the former M1 T&SUV (waiting for the turbo diesel to check on price).

MC 5w-20 where ever applicable (no vehicle I own is spec'd for it ..but two are/were using it with excellent results).

The rest of the spectrum, brand/composition doesn't really matter to me. Lighter HDEOs ..PCMO ..whatever

1 - Havoline

That's really the only dino I use because it's typically the cheapest.

I wish I could find Chevron somewhere, like Bill in Utah finds for $.49/quart. However, I've never seen it at any store I hit. Supposedly Costco sells it but I don't know anybody with a Costco membership, nor do I want to pay $50/year to be a memember so I can go back oil for $.49/qt.

By the way, I buy my oil from Wal-Mart since they always have the cheapest price.

In my current car, the oils that seem to have performed best are:

-Motorcraft 5w30
-Pennzoil 5w30 and 10w30
-Havoline 5w30 and 10w30
-Superflo 10w30

1.Redline 5w30
2.Redline 5w30
3.Redline 5w30

Also I have 42 quarts of PP for 0.32c per/q from Pepboys/Pennzoil rebate deal (perhaps it took 9 phone calls to reinstate all pepboys rebates), not even sure when I gonna start to use it...

Redline makes Conventional oil now?

The question was what conventional oils are your top 3.

Hey Bill, where do you get all your Chevron oil at? I really want to find some but from the looks of the "Chevron - Where to Buy" webpage, I won't have much luck finding here in Indianapolis.

Chevron
Motorcraft
Havoline

Chevron is easy to get and inexpensive at Checker and Costco. I have used it for years and at the Lexus dealership (Portland, OR) that my son works at it is the bulk oil - good enough when I owned a Camry.

Motorcraft is in my '05 Civic that specs 5w-20. I used Havoline many years ago, but it is more difficult to find in Phoenix.

I wish Chevron was easy to get here. I think the only place that stocks it around here is Costco. And like I said in a previous post, I don't want to pay $50/year to be member just so I can take advantage of some cheap oil. I hate that nobody else stocks it around here.

Ops.. my fault, I have one quart of Castrol GTX left over from one of my friends. If anyone need it, come over my house and pick it up for free

No love to any conventional oils. I’m truly believer in extended synthetics oil change practices, all my cars on 8-12k miles OC intervals or one year whatever comes first.

Den_S,

Good to see somebody actually taking advantage of longer OCI's with synthetic. Seems like a lot of people on here that run synthetic don't run it longer than a convential oil would last.

As for me, I just changed over to GC and plan on running it for 10K on my '00 Grand Am GT V6 with 105K miles, backed by a UOA. My '05 Mazda3 2.3L I4 is getting Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 for 7500K miles (longest I can go per warranty). This will also be backed with a UOA.

I change oil on quite a few cars (family & friends). This is where I mostly use conventional oil.

Checkers has about 40-50 cases in each store..

I was shocked to find out that they sell 10-40 and 20-50 here in large numbers!

I've got about 200 quarts (I think) of the 49 cent oil in "reserve"..

Too bad they don't have it more avail in the midwest and east. It's a great oil. I'll have my 4k UOA (hopefully without the Anti-freeze

) in the end of this week if Blackstone gets it..

Take care, Bill
