Wife got an iPhone

As a long-time Droid user, I must say that I'm impressed. Really impressed. Though the screen is small, the picture quality is far superior to the Droid phones that I've been seeing recently. The camera is also among the best out there (she uses the camera a lot). It paired via Bluetooth to the Acura very easily (her Droid 4 fought it the whole way), and the way it syncs tunes and photos via iCloud is excellent. The keyboard is very good; I can type on it as well as I can the virtual keyboard on my 4.3" HTC Incredible 2.

And oh, as a phone? It works well at that also. Sound quality is very good and there's little white noise, even when used outside in the wind.

This is our first modern Apple product (the obsolete G3 iMac in the closet doesn't count), and I'm extremely surprised at just how easy and pleasing it is to use. When she was looking at phones a few weeks ago, I said, "naw, don't mess with the iPhone, it's got a small screen and doesn't even have 4G." We own STOCK in the company, and I still didn't recommend it. The Motorola Droid 4 she bought was pretty much sub par in every way but the physical keyboard (and the critical reviews did say that). But after some time with a family member's iPhone, it became clear to both of us what the hype is all about.

So she's rockin' an iPhone, Facetiming her mother so the kids can see grammy, and all that "Apple-y" stuff. Fun.

I assume this is the new 4S model with Siri? My father in-law loves his... I just cant bring myself to spend the $$ yet. I suppose I could jump ship and go with VZ or ATT, but I'm afraid I'd use too much data and all. Being with Sprint, the wife and I have unlimited data/text.

Plus I also think the new 9900 is good.


One thing I did like about the iPhone is that the keyboard (virtual) works very well. I do not care about all the other stuff it can do because in the end smartphones for me are just text/email/bbm/phonecalls.

The tiny screen, non removable battery or memory, no 4g, body of phone made of glass almost all around, feminine looking, limited customization, gimmicky siri, lack of adobe flash, over crowded apple store that an appointment has to be made just to help you with your apple device, and expensive phone that cost next to nothing to make in a foxconn factory in china..... Is not a phone for somebody like me.

I'm rockin' the 9900 as well. I had an iPhone 4 for about a week but just couldn't stand the lack of physical keyboard.

My mom has the 4S. I vastly prefer my Samsung Galaxy S2. And not even because of apple v android. I have an S-PVA (AMOLED) screen, and its much brighter, sharper than the iphones "retina" IPS display. It's faster, I like the interface better, among many other things. And that's with Android 2.3, I can't wait until we (eventually) get Ice cream sandwich.

Seriously, better hardware, bigger and better screen, equivalent battery life, more customizable. I do like siri, but not enough to trade the other benefits my phone has over hers.

I'm surprised you think the camera is better then the Incredible 2. I've got the Incredible 2 and my ex had the iPhone 4, we always used mine because her pics would never be quite as focused. I also like the way Facebook syncs to Droid better. My only complaint is having to hook up the phone to my laptop to upload music instead of being able to do so wireless.

Im very tech savvy and work in cutting edge R&D. The iphone does not get boring.

x2. I'm extremely tech savvy, and the iPhone is still great for me and isn't boring. And, I've owned an iPhone ever since they came out. I've tried the Samsung Galaxy SkyRocket, but I can't bring myself to using that phone daily, it's missing a lot of the small things that make iOS great.

She has the 4S, which I think has an upgraded camera over the 4. But after using both, hers and mine, there is no comparison in picture quality, and yes, I think the Incredible 2 has a great camera already. The 4S really shines in low-light situations (such as rooms indoors), and this is where the Incredible 2's camera tends to not be as good.

I'm a tech guy at heart, and that may be why I like this iPhone so much. I know how complex devices like this are, and just how much work it takes to make them work right. That they can be so functional AND so user-friendly is almost magic to me. I remember flipping dip switches and trying to unconflict IRQ problems.

I love my 4S 64GB!! I got an Otterbox case for it because I tend to drop things. We have WiFi at work and at home so I really don't use that much off my data plan.

Siri can be finnicky, but it can do things like turn off all of my alarms when I am in bed, makes it a lot easier to tell it to turn them off instead of actually rolling over and looking at a screen.

It depends what you are comfortable with. I like to listen to music and I had a iPhone 3GS (shouldn't have sold it). Syncing with iTunes was straightforward, cool apps, etc. Worked with my aftermarket car stereo (via 30pin connector) which allows me to control it using the head unit. Audio through the headphones was pretty loud and clear (not using the included earphones.)

I was eligible for upgrade and decided to get an Android phone. An LG Thrill 4G to be exact. General use is great. Lots of cool apps, even better with rooted. Removeable battery when it crashes. Hardware sucked, audio wasn't excellent. I tried playing around with different audio players and the music would just clip so hard when I push it. (I have an ipod nano for that now.) Camera would cause the phone to crash, general crashes, insane crashes, [censored] battery life. USB mode won't work with my car's stereo. Note it does has Froyo 2.2 still so I dunno when ATT is going to release an update.

Foxconn charges Apple around 80$ for each iphone device.

Not a fan of iphones, nearly everyone I know with android phones has issues with them being buggy, and Blackberry is dying.

So, I went with a Nokia Lumia 900 running Windows Phone 7.5. Honestly, I am pretty impressed (and the phone being free in the end didn't hurt either...)

I joined also with iPhone 4s coming from Android(HTC Incredible) for 2.5 years. Not a single regret. I was happy with Android but did not realize it could be done much easier after owning Apple.

I did not like the Android phones that were compatible with my Acura MDX's (2007) BlueTooth system so I jumped ship.

Not a single regret. The interface is so much easier, quicker and natural over my Android. It just works as does Siri.

The only thing I dearly miss is the incredible Google Navigation App which was wonderful and free. Also Google Voice integration is not that great but works. Skype is wonderful on the iPhone.

I don't find an iPhone boring or exciting personally. Simply a work and life tool. That is it.

We just got a regular 4 and a 4S.

The 4 is a good phone, a little better than a 3GS that it replaced, but nothing earth-shaking.

The 4S, however, is altogether in another league. Very polished and refined, and does everything effortlessly.

IIRC, one of the computer geek sites (Anandtech?) tore an S down and benchmarked it. It performed best in class in many areas. So I can't say it's just a pretty face.

No, it's not a true "4G" phone, but it does everything else so gracefully, and so trouble-free, I don't care. Best phone I've had since my trusty StarTac.

If you've got ATV, you've got Airplay, and the whole Apple thing starts to look pretty good. It all just works without any hassle.

FWIW, the SGP Glas.t is incredible on these (like nothing at all), as long as the adhesive doesn't give out.

we have 4s.

it's our 1st apple product and got two 4s (one was free) and we're very happy - we don't believe in a lot of gimmicks and only do a few other things with it in addition to calling and messaging, just facebook, and email and listen to music, and occasional browsing.
Excellent battery life and everything's very stable. I was ready hate it, i think it does all things really well. The screen is more than big enough for what we do.

coming from a BB pearl, we are pleasently surprised and impressed. androids may have a million widgets and gadgets and my BIL has one but it runs out of battery all the time and he reboots the phone at least 4-5 times a day. and most of the stuff just doesn't WORK.

not a SINGLE reboot since we got the iphones. it really...just works.
