Why won't Lena Dunham go away and leave us alone?

Not sure I understand. I've tried to be clear that no one deserves to be mistreated.

Yet the realities of the world are that some will be mistreated. Some of those did not take all the precautions they could.

Does that mean it's their fault. Of course not. Only a moron who doesn't understand logic will mistake such a statement for blame.

Does it mean they didn't make their circumstance any better by not taking reasonable precautions? Of course it does.

Citing the circumstances under which an attack is more likely NEVER equals blaming the victim for the attack.

If you think citing risk factors equals blame, then nothing I say will change your faulty reasoning.

I believe it is more accurate to suggest they should not be surprised by such an outcome.

Then I suggest that you gain nothing for yourself by appearing on the side of people whose knee-jerk reaction to a rape is "she should have done XYZ."

What you describe here -- which I desperately hope is a more accurate reflection of your opinion than what you've written earlier -- is a reasonable reaction. Reflexively throwing responsibility for rape back on the victim is not a reasonable reaction.

Well said. This is what I was trying, and apparently failing, to get across.

What do you mean recently? What's changed?

We have many more . . . new arrivals, shall we say? . . . to our shores who don't subscribe to the traditional American ideals. The U.S. is not alone in that: Check the recent increase in rape stats in Scandinavian countries, for example.

Correct, bad choice in words as implying they deserve it means disregarding the prerequisites leading to it. Since they simply deserved it either way is not correct.

Breaking news! Lena Dunham raped her sister repeatedly. What a horrible, vile, evil creature.

This woman should be in prison for her aggravated advances towards her young sister. She was 17 years old in one excerpt of her book and committed horrible actions.

Who? How the fudge do you even hear of these people?

Oh, nevermind!

Um, I'm pretty sure no one in Hollywood knows who she is either...

Maybe you can troll her to death on the internet with your nonsensical posts and threads?

You are obviously unsettled by this woman and her work. I have never seen her TV show nor read any of her books; only saw her on Saturday Night Live and read a few interviews. I can easily see people seeing her as the poster child for self-absorbed, pretentious brats everywhere and directing all of their ire for that type of person toward her.

I have to admit I have an aversion for that type, too, and avoid exposing myself to celebrities and their surrounding culture in order to spare myself being unsettled. You can not like her or her celebrity all you want; but I do not think anything can be done about that that does not involve you becoming Grand Dictator over the Thoughts and Preferences of All People, and that isn't any good, either. People, like it or not, are choosing to consume her work. And possibly worse, a good portion of a generation of young women considers her a role model. If it bothers you to this point, though, maybe "unplugging" is the best way that "something can be done about it". After all, all of your expressions of distaste and anger have absolutely *zero* effect on her or her fan base; they only affect you, obviously not for the better!

As of last night I now know exactly what you mean and I agree.

I had no idea this creature had been in the public eye so long.

And when I say "in the public eye," I mean in the sense of being poked in the eyeball with a sharp stick. Dorothy Parker never got this kind of attention, and she had talent.
