Cosby Allegations

I am really surprised no one has brought up all the rape allegations being made against Bill Cosby. Maybe it was and I missed it or somehow it got political/racial and was deleted? Figured I would bring it up for discussion though as it kind of bugs me. PLEASE let's keep this on topic. There is nothing racial or political about this so let's not go there. The situation reminds me a lot of what happened to Paula Dean. Things being alleged from long ago in the past that can't possibly be proved now. Sponsors cutting ties, media as usual reporting with a bias, people calling for Cosby's head just as with Paula Dean even though no one knows if any of it is true. I mean whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty in this country? When did being accused of something mean you did it without question? 2 recent news stories on this really get to me. One is the Navy taking back the honorary promotion he was given in 2011...
Quote:
"The Navy is taking this action because allegations against Mr. Cosby are very serious and are in conflict with the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment,"
So I guess the Navy doesn't consider innocent until proven guilty, the basic premise our entire legal system is founded on, to be a core value they should uphold and defend. Allegations should never be grounds to tear someone down. I can see taking it away if he actually did it but just because someone says he did many years ago doesn't mean it happened. How about showing some of that "courage" and "honor" they espouse and actually require proof before taking any action? The other one really doesn't surprise me when you look at who is behind it( Gloria Allred ). She had her typical big news conference with the dutifully crying and woeful "victims" there playing to the cameras and the public for pity. She wants Cosby to basically wave the statue of limitations and let it go to court where "he can prove his innocence". Yeah right, like things don't get all skewed in court by the lawyers so the innocent are found guilty. Cosby would be a moron to do that even if he is innocent as he says he is. If he won't do that she wants him to put up $100 MILLION to basically be paid out to the victims. Yes, you read that right, $100 MILLION!!!!!...
Quote:
Gloria Allred -- who reps some of the women accusing Bill Cosby of rape -- says she knows the statute of limitations has run out but she issued a challenge ... do "what's right" and fight it out in court, or ante up $100 million for an informal hearing where the women can prove he damaged them.
I don't know if he did any of this or not? Truth be told there is no way we will ever know unless there is some long lost video that surfaces. There certainly is no real evidence he did anything wrong. I mean I could say Cosby molested me but does it make it true? I will be darned however if I will crucify ANYONE and believe rape claims without proof. That is about the worst thing you can be accused of and I am not believing it without proof. He said/she said from years and years ago is not something I will just jump at to believe. Maybe that makes me a bad person but it is how I feel. This all just seems too much like a money grab to me. Especially with Allred getting into the mix. As with the Paula Dean fiasco everyone seems to believe it JUST because it is being claimed. Assuming he is innocent as claimed I feel really bad for Cosby. What has happened to our country?

I have always liked Bill Cosby but it's hard to ignore SO MANY accusers. If it was one or two maybe but not this many. I also don't think the allegations against Paula Dean compare to drugging and raping woman....

I have no idea about any of it, but when a lawyer who's 'gathering' victims starts talking about the accused coming up with big $ for 'a fund', I get very suspicious

I wasn't comparing what Cosby and Dean were accused of to each other. What I was doing, was commenting on the way people just automatically believe it and the similar destruction of their personal and professional lives that followed as a result of the allegations despite no proof the claimed incidents actually happened. Celebrities accused of something and people, the media, their sponsors, etc... just believing it. THAT is what I talked of. If you think a lot of accusers actually means guilty that is scary. Have you ever heard of the McMartin preschool rape claims? That was a whole lot of people making claims that were eventually proven to be false but the family was destroyed by it. How about all the false claims that were made ultimately for money against Michael Jackson? It happens. Again, I have no idea if Cosby did any of the things he is accused of. No one but Cosby and the accusers actually do. Unless we get some kind of tangible proof he should be given the benefit of the doubt. I would expect no less if it was you or me being accused. That is how our legal system is supposed to work.

I still think there is something to these claims. I just can't imagine so many unrelated woman lying.

Bill Cosby does not have to rape anyone. It's just that simple. Women fall at his feet and take a number for who's next. I find the whole thing as nothing more than a cash grab. I don't care how many women are saying what. We're these women told they would get a cheque? It's sad. Firstly that these bleeding hearts are even giving it press. Take a very close look at the "victims" and their current financial situation. I'll bet most are looking at tough times and they see a fat wallet. It reminds me of what's happening locally with the residential schools payouts. These "victims" only have to claim abuse, not prove it,to collect a settlement cheque. I'm sure Bill Cosby isn't an angel but I seriously doubt he's a rapist. He didn't have to rape any woman,I guarantee he wasn't having any problems getting a piece. Just sayin.

Many want 15 minutes of fame, what else a person can get on local/national TV as easy as claiming that Bill Cosby raped/molested her/him 20-30 years ago. Nobody should accuse anyone of any crime without any evidence. So far there is no evidence whatsoever.

Exactly. This all goes away if you give us 100 million dollars. Blackmail.......

Why not. All it takes is to let the word out to a few people that there's going to be a suit against Cosby and if you know anyone who in the past that was assaulted by him call this lawyer. Before I even gives this matter a first thought I want to see absolute proof. Not he said she said. If he raped a woman why is there no report. Why is it only coming to light now. There is definitely something going on here. Cosby has angered someone and they are looking to destroy him in the court of public opinion. Take Julian Asange with wiki leaks. He gets thrown in jail on a skin beef because they couldn't do anything else. People lie all the time. For free. Add a cheque with a bunch of zeros on the end and I can assure you I can get 100 women to say Cosby raped them. They don't want a trial. They won't win. They want money. Period. And even if he did rape one or more of these women they should have reported it immediately and moved forward with charges. In not doing that they've put in to question their own credibility. I'm sorry if it did happen, but if it was such a big deal why wait years to say anything. Not only that but that 100 million dollar demand makes me second guess the whole story. Something really stinks here. And it ain't ole Bill

Slutty young women who slept with him hoping that he would be their 'ticket' to fame and fortune. He did not rape, just dated and moved onto the next woman. You can't blame the guy for dating lots of women. Just like pro athletes.... they have tons of women wanting to shack up with them.

LA Times printed more than 2-3 pages each day for several months about McMartin preschool child molestations. In the end, absolutely no single evidence was found and they found not guilty but their lives were ruin. After this case I truly believe that without evidence the accuser should be charged with making false police report.

Not grown up watching him but based on his reaction in the PBS interview (silent for seconds when asked "what do you have to say") I'd say there's something going on. He could have said those aren't true, or he could say "I didn't do it but I'm too old to go through all these stresses so I'd just pay them to go away", but he didn't. My gut feeling is he did rape at least some of them (and many more who just threw themselves to him willingly) , and tried to cover up, but the cats got out of the bag.

Yeah this! Remember the hysteria about hypodermic needles in pepsi cans? There was no way, coincidentally, that people all over the country would find needles within a week with dozens of bottling plants, months in distribution, etc. Or those guys piling on John Kerry for not deservign "swift boat" medals. They've all been retired for years, if they had a beef with the Navy they could have taken it up before Kerry got even more famous. Or Trent Lott getting railroaded for wanting things the way they used to be. Or the guy that owned the basketball team getting secretly taped. I have no doubt there are people right now getting framed with (alleged) sexual abuse and stuff like kiddie porn because it's the most awfullest thing in the world, and it's trivial to hack into their home or work computer. This hysteria will hopefully blow over like the Red Scare of 50 years back or the Witch trials from 300 years ago.

When did Julian Asange get out in jail? Je has been hiding in the Equadorian Embassy for a good few years now. And that was to avoid extradition to face trial for allegations made against him. Unlike Bill Cosby and several famous people in the UK recently with historic allegations. Some have been found guilty in the UK and some not. The biggest nonce was Jimmy Saville.

How old is he now. At his age it's posdible he's not as sharp as he once was and complete sentences might be a problem. I Can't say whether he did or didn't. What I can say without a doubt is he had no trouble in the girl department. If one said no there are 100 more ready and willing. Unless he's some kind of weirdo and needed that type of "chase" to get off.

Exactly. There is something bigger going on here behind the scenes and this is being used in some way to send a message.

Perhaps because sexual assaults against women especially under 'unusual circumstances' gets short shrift from a male dominated legal system in the 1970s 1980s etc. I agree with you, but the sensibilities of today were just not present 20,30,40 years ago. Heck you can get raped on a campus today whether you play football might factor into what the police do. Casually dismissing these allegations without some sort of investigation would be pretty irresponsible IMHO.

Lots of women that are aspiring actress / models go to Hollywood CA hoping for their lucky break and get discovered and be the next Kate Upton. Sorry ladies, it ain't gonna happen. Bill Cosby didn't rape any women. He enjoyed their company and moved on to the next female.

Not that I disagree with you,30 years ago things were different however rape is rape. And with women's lib and whatnot going strong in the 80's,as well as the social changes as far as equality in the workplace and so on I don't believe that if Cosby raped one of these women it would have been front page news. It was the 80s,not the 50s.

They can be casually dismissed because the statute of limitations has long passed. No DA is going to spend money to investigate something that can't be prosecuted. They all made the choice decades ago to not file a complaint. And this lawyer calling for Cosby to put up 100 million dollars for these women, well, it's now about money.

He could have release a statement afterward about why he couldn't answer those questions. His lawyer (he will for sure have one for these kind of accusation) would and should have teach him how to respond. But there's nothing, no press release, no explanation. Yes, there are people who think girls thrown at them without any risk of getting into trouble isn't as fun as "catching" one. If simple and easy sex is all it takes to get rid of all sex crime out there, there will be no sex crime as long as we legalize prostitution. But it doesn't work that way.
