why don't they put hour meters on cars?

All of our GM trucks have hours available back to 04 which is as old as they get around here.

The Silverados have it right in the dash display and the vans have it but it's only accessible by scan tool.

Trip meter is useful if you want to see when you are going to get gas next or how far you have driven on a particular trip. Indicator for oil change or other maintenance is only a secondary purposes.

They do now [kinda]. It is integrated in to the OLM systems.

my Challenger has a hour meter, it counts Idel time then time in gear and then a total of the 2, i thought it was cool when i found it.
