why do neighbors live so close if they're going to complain?

It seems everywhere you go there is always that one neighbor who thinks they're above the rest of the world and complains about everything. Do you ever wonder why some of these people decide to live like 2ft away from another house? Okay more like 8ft, but you get the idea.

Not everyone can afford a single family. Also in the city there aren't many of them. Some one bedroom condos in a major city cost more than a single family in Texas.

It goes both ways, you also have to be respectful of your neighbors if you're going to live that close.

There's nothing wrong with complaining, provided you do something about the situation. If all someone does is complain with no actions done, that is called being a windbag.

People live close because they cannot afford to live in that area further apart. Even ocean front property worth millions of dollars is on top of each other.

Here's a few, and I can think of many more. Not everyone has a choice, or the money to live in an area where houses aren't on top of one another. Another reason is unfortunately good neighbors die, or they move away and are replaced by people who aren't as nice for whatever reason. One of my best friends passed away last year, and her husband, another dear friend moved in May as a result. The block and life around here is not the same without them.

Same thing with people buying a house next to an airport, then complaining about airplanes flying overhead..

Oh my god, tell me about it. No matter if you are respectful or not, some are just like that, above the world, entitled.

We live in a rental apartment. Most of the people with kids live here because of the school district. As soon as the kids graduate, they move (that tells you abt the quality of this apartment block). I have had my share of experience, esp of people without any partners or kids.

Lets be realistic. There isn't enough land for everyone to live in the country nor should every house be on a huge lot.

Just be glad you don't live here:

Right click- google image search indicates Nagasaki and Hong Kong.

What gets me are the people who buy property on a numbered state highway then want cars to slow down b/c they have kids. They buy those day-glo "hey we're playin here" things. Put up a fence!

mine are not that far away. But far enough. All the lots here are 5 acres. I have 2 lots side by side. So my closest neighbor is on the other side of my empty lot.

Sometimes if the wind is blowing I can hear him playing his banjo.

I tried country and in NH people love to shoot off guns at 10—12 at night which got so old. I moved to closer expensive lots where gun fire illegal due to proximity (100 yards of Home). I like everything 10 mins away not driving 20-30 mins like the country and not a ton of choices.

When people live within close proximity to each other, each others actions have more impact on one another.

What I don't get are the "my property" people that have the house on the block that looks like a favela. If you want to live like pigs, move to where you don't have people living right next to you.

But I also see people that "patrol" the neighborhood and get all worked up about minor things like the bush/tree maintenance and a little paint peeling. When these people are neighbors, it's bad for everyone.

This is why I like houses that were built in the 1950s-60s. They're always on HUGE lots, built like a tank, and far away from your next door neighbors. Oh,and no sleazy HOA's.
