What's your favorite oil? And why?

Lately My fave is Valvoline because of the rebates. However just changed oil today in my daughters VW Beetle with 1.8 turbo and put in Castrol Edge with Syntec due to heat and sludge issues. And the fact that I may not see it again for 6 months. But my stock of NextGen is full and will need to be used in the next 3 years or so. LOL

For dino, I too have always liked Valvoline because when you pour it in, it looks white, almost like cooking oil. However, I did pour some into some old Quaker State Q-Horsepower clear bottles to compare to other brands I own, and in the clear bottles, the colours look the same. It turns out that Valvoline just pours out paler, not sure why, but the near-white colour gives me psychological re-assurance that it's clean oil.

Never tried the NextGen stuff since I have a bias against recycled oil (unless I'm naive in that most dino oils have recycled components in it already).

Everybody say`s that, but my rx runs very nicely on the VWB. Doesnt seem to like PYB. Cant explain it. So for now anyway, I am a Valvoline convert.

I get a chuckle out of this thread, because there's essentially 2 crowds...

Crowd 1: Loyal to brand/type.... BrandX/TypeX is my fav.

Crowd 2: Bargains are my favorites!

I tend to run somewhere in between. I know what I like, so I hoarde when I get a bargain on that...

I can only speak for the Honda I have, but the 2.4L runs best (according to my senses) on Mobil 1 AFE SN 0w30.

I am surprised at number of people mentioning Valvoline. I'll have to give it a try.

Dino: Castrol GTX, PYB, Chevron
Semi: Motorcraft, Kendal
G III: PP, PU
G III,IV,V Blend: MobilOne
G IV: GC, Amsoil
G V: Redline
HM: Valvoline HM

I have tried a bunch over the years and none have caused a problem. Used the most, probably Mobil 1, but not so much anymore because I find better deals. Not sure why, but never been a huge fan of Castrol products and used them a lot in years past, just think they are over marketed. Formula Shell Synthetic has been a good choice of late, get the coupon and BJ's and walk away with 6 qt of that stuff for $17.00, so not a bad deal.

Amsoil !
I use Amsoil products in everything I own. I have for 35 years.
I'll continue to use them because I like them :-)
Oil brands are subjective to each individual. Some say since the first oil they ever bought was Pennzoil, it is the best and they will continue to use it. Why, because they like it... it worked for them and it was there first purchase so they are loyal. Insert any brand of oil in the above statement.
Just my opinion, others will vary.

Is Valvoline made by the same company as Havoline?

Thanks mate. Thought they were made by Chevron. Not too familiar with Ashland I must admit.
Superior to Havoline? I tried Havoline mineral a couple of times and it was nasty.

I do an onverse correlation with hype. The more the hype or [censored] a company tries to shovel, the more I like to go to a competitor, as long as the numbers are good on the oil. That being said, I tend to like the Mobil products because of thier reputation and availability.

Out of everything I have used Valvoline always seems to come through. Makes my engines run super smooth, and quiet. My current fill is Chevron Supreme, and it has been good too. However, I will be going back to Valvoline, and using Nextgen stuff again. Every chance to conserve resources is good in my book. Hopefully Nextgen Synpower comes out soon!

Mobil 1 in the 5 qt jug. Cheap for a synthetic, super convenient in the 5-quart jug. Perfect for doing an oil change on my truck. The truck doesn't seem to give a flip about oil brand, so I get what's convenient for me.

Dino - Chevron Supreme
Havoline solid add pack/smooth running
Syn - Pennzoil Ultra very smooth running
HDEO -Mobil Delvac 1300 Super proven performance
Chenron Delo 400 proven performance

2010 Nissan Versa 1.8 ltr very smooth with PU
2011 Ram 1500 4.7 ltr very smooth with PU
2007 Volvo Penta 3 ltr stern drive safe with either HDEO listed in 15w40 visc.
