We have some Kraft horseradish in the fridge, no BHT, BHA, HCL, etc

I appreciate the info on all those chemicals in horseradish. I never knew that stuff was added to it.

I'm glad you tried the French's product. I like it as a mayo substitute with whole wheat bread, ham & swiss cheese. It was refreshing to see only a handful of ingredients on the bottle, too. Costco sells some tortilla chips in a paper sack style package. Same thing, only a few ingredients, doesn't have that ultra-salty taste like so many tortilla chips (and all other chips, really) have to them.

Every horseradish product I've looked at had BHT in it. I'll have to look some more. I'm pretty sure I checked the Kraft product. Kraft's creamy version has HFCS in it. Horseradish isn't the main ingredient.

My wife's from the South and every once in a while, she'll ask me if I want Miracle Whip. The first time I asked WHAT is that? Well, she made me a sandwich with miracle whip which I immediately dubbed "Trailer Park Mayonnaise"..

I'm still in the doghouse over that one. Been about six years.

As a kid all I knew was Miracle Whip!! I thought it was mayonaise. Weird because in general my mom made everything from scratch. I haven't had it in probably 25+ years. I wonder what it tastes like............naw................

Now I like the HD olive oil mayo made with extra virgins. None of the girls like it. Oh well.

So you ain't never seen it till your wife told you about it. They don't be sellin' it up there? Or what? I grew up in a trailer and step-mom hated real mayo. So we ate our turkey sandwiches with Miracle Whip. Went I went to visit my real momma I got Hellmann's!

Now I live in a house with a fridge that has both the real deal and salad dressing. Upgrade if I ever heard of one!

They DO sell it here on Long Island, I just never noticed it before.. I usually shop in Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. They certainly don't have it there. I just always went straight for Hellmann's in the regular grocery store.

Camu, that is one of the funniest posts I've ever read.

My favorites:

Horseradish on my roast beef sandwiches (with dip). Deli mustard on my pastrami sandwiches.

The deli mustard has whole mustard seeds and a bit of horseradish mixed in.

Wasabi Horseradish?!?!?!? I have to try it!

The local Russian stores sell a kind of mustard and horseradish mixture. The brand name is 'Old Mother in Law' and the logo is an angry babushka. It's very strong stuff that the wife loves as a condiment to German rope sausages we eat during the summers.

Another hot condiment we use is 'Big Boy' pepper sauce from Barbados. It's hard to find in the US - it's a habanero pepper sauce. Even the Bajans can't handle that but the wife likes it.

There is no Kraft horseradish on the shelf where I looked. I saw the Beaver brand, complete with nasties.

Here is a Thai one

Maesri brand Pla Tu Chili Paste

Ingredients: Chilli, Mackerel Fish, Shallot, Garlic, Fish Sauce, Lime Juice, Sugar, MSG

MSG is OK with me although I know lots of people avoid it.

Lots of Thai stuff has shrimp paste which I must avoid.

I have bought several orders of five or six bottles a time from online Thai groceries.
