What is your filter preference and your back up?

Depends on the car for me, but usually I go for something that is well built and relatively cost effective. The Tucson and FRS get OEM filters. With Hyundai/Kia there's this whole discussion about whether aftermarket filters can cause problems and with Subaru engines there's of course the ever popular bypass pressure debate, so why not play it safe? Conveniently they are also some of the cheapest options in my area. If the Tokyo Roki made Subaru filter wasn't available I'd use Wix/Napa filters on the FRS. The Jetta gets Mann/Mahle filters, because they're cheaper than Fram Ultras and the ones from the dealership.

I use the original Quantum Blue with the contamination dissolving additive package so there is nothing left to need filtering.

The filter companies made them take it off the market but it can still be gotten by special order from the garage door recipe if you say please and they know you.

Mann or Mahle with Wix as backup for the VWs.
Donaldson or Fram Ultra for Ram CTD
Fram Ultra or old stock gold can Pure Ones for Lexus GX470 and Honda Civic

Quantum Blue
Ahh, yes, the good old QB and the optional grades ( 5w25, 7.5w23, 8w35, 10w35, 12.5w32,12.5w35, 12.5w37, 12.5w40, 15w45, 16.3w37.5, 17.5w45, 20w35 )

Back on topic, I prefer WIX but have recently built a stash of FU from RA labeled as FPS. Wife's Kia gets OEM while under warranty.

Sounds like the cows we got that were supposed to eat the Star Thistle that grew in the dry areas of the pasture. They certainly ate the Star Thistle , but once the Star Thistle was eaten to the ground the cows ate all the barb wire fencing.

I like AC Delco and Wix. Both are readily available so no need for a backup. Now that I'm taking care of 3 full time use vehicles, Delco gets the nod for being less expensive.

Oem blue subaru for the STi (4 left will try 1 amsoil filter wife bought for bday gift)
OEM denso for the RAV4 (4 left, doesn't see a lot of kilometers might stock up on more oem)
Wix/napa Gold for the CRV (Previous owner used, so will continue)
