What is the largest round you have shot?

Mildly souped up .44Mags in my B92 Browning. Steel buttplate for added effect...nobody at the range wants to try my rifle anymore.

Heaviest recoil has been a short barrel 12ga with 3in #4 buck. Most uncomortable has been an old 30.30 Winchester lever carbine that had a narrow stock with a curved buttplate. Dumbest recoil has been a .300 Weatherby, where the recoil wasn't too bad but the light barrel resulted in a stupid amount of muzzle flip. I helped a couple of guys sight it in as they were flinching too badly to get a group.

The largest rifle round for me was a family friend's long and heavy .75 musket that kicked hard and sounded like a canon. The largest pistol round for me is a .45 acp.

That .50 s&w 500 magnum sure would be fun.

Biggest rifle was 50 BMG out of a Barret M82A1.

Biggest handgun is 500 SW mag, but I have shot some 454 Casull handloads that were more powerful than standard 500 mag.

That's how I felt with when I owned that Sako .375 H&H. For anyone not familiar with this round, it is commonly used on African Safaris and large grizzly bear hunts.

When I was into hunting brown bears in Cordova Alaska, my buddy and I only felt comfortable with one of us manning a shotgun with 00 buck staggered with slugs and the 375. Out in the wilderness it would get downright spooky. You could smell the wet dog odor from the bears. You would find just eaten pieces of salmon on the ground and once in awhile a big still steaming pile of [censored]. My buddy and I acted like we were big hunters, but we were scared big time when we'd go out. Before I was stationed in Alaska, I thought my 300 Win Mag would be plenty stout enough, until the locals insisted I go with at least a 338 Win mag or larger.

I really miss living in Alaska. Once in a lifetime thing that at age 20, i wish I would have not taken for granted.

Yeah, that thing is just a cannon.

I see you live in Billings. I just moved from there two years ago. I lived in the heights near Wal Mart. I commuted to Hardin when I worked at a power plant there. I miss Billings.

Most punishing was a friends single shot (daayum that thing's light) 10ga turkey gun with 3 1/2 inch magnum turkey load! First round produced immediate headache, but with him cackling "wanna shoot it again?? want ta shoot it again?" and nearly dancing around me,,, the only answer was h&!! yes! NEVER do that again!

Most unpleasant rifle was an older Ruger .44 auto. Not at all powerful, but a really unpleasant "jab", don't know quite how to explain it.

44mag pistols aren't a big deal, most uncomfortabe had to have been a Colt .38 detective special 2" with hot handloads.

Small snubbies with potent hand loads are far worse than even a 500 S&W IMO.

A Smith Model 60 .357 with a round that will do over 700 ft. lbs. out of a 4 inch barreled revolver just snaps your wrist with pain. Not like a big hard push that a big revolver with a big load will do.

Although, S&W has some pretty short barreled big game revolvers these days.

The biggest round I've shot is a wheel grana cheese (Parmigiano-Reggiano), with a Canon Eos-1v and Provia 100 film.

.... I know, I'm the only one who thinks I'm funny.

I'd like their short .50 too. The recoil wouldnt be that bad with its heavy weight and compensator.

The beast with the most recoil I ever shouldered was a 460 Weatherby. 90lbs of free recoil will make you talk to yourself. I have spent some time with a Barret .50 and the Weatherby was much worse. It's all about the weight of the firearm. The stock design also contributes to felt recoil.

I rather like it here. Some of the feel of the big city, but drive just a few miles and you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere.

I've shot a .45-70 Gov't out of a Magnum Research BFR single action once. It wasn't bad, much like a heavy .44 load. I have a Colt Anaconda that I shoot .44 Magnums with but not too often. .45ACP is the most powerful round I shoot for enjoyment.
