What glue,caulk, etc to use?

The gasket where the overflow drain meets the tub is leaking. I tried tub caulk that's years old, but was never opened. It worked good for a few days but softened up and let air through again.
I have JB Weld on there now but it's leaking also... I know when it leaks because running the exhaust fan after a shower pulls moldy smelling air through it.

Anybody know of something that would adhere to the pvc pipe and tub?

After perfectly cleaning and prepping the area, then slightly roughing up the PVC pipe [w/sandpaper if possible], GE Silicone Seal should work. HTH

I'm wondering if the tub is supported well enough in that area? If a plastic tub wiggles around enough when someone is bathing/showering that seal will probably keep breaking.

I don't understand the part where you say it is pulling moldy, smelly air through it.

There should be a "U" trap below the tub drain so gases cannot come up from the waste drain.

I hadn't thought about the tub possibly moving/flexing.. Probably all the more reason to try a caulk that stays somewhat flexible after curing. I'll try to find GE silicone seal.

doitmyself: It's the gasket at the very top of that picture. The screws can't be tightened enough to make it seal anymore. I'm just trying to seal it without having to take the drain all apart and replace the gasket. The air is being pulled from the crawl space.

Why not make your own gasket from sheet rubber? Buy the right thickness from mcmaster and cut to size or slightly oversize. If all you can get is black sheet, use white caulk just to hide it.

Unfortunately there's not enough room between the overflow drain and the back of the tub. I'd have to disassemble the drain to replace the gasket.

It took me a while to get all the epoxy off. I roughed it up real good with sandpaper and put some new silicone tub caulk on it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Man I wish mine was that simple... It's not centered so the bottom half of it has almost no wiggle room. I tried pulling the top part with pliers but they just pull chunks of it off. Feels like it's super glued to the drain
