What are you eating right now?

You are getting the wrong kind of fruitcake. I'll tell you what's in the kind I make.

Basic soft-to-medium firm yeast dough made with flour, warm milk, a little sugar, yeast.

Mix into the above dough rum-soaked raisins and/or cranberries
rum-soaked citrus peel (not candied)
rum and amaretto
crumbled marzipan
slivered, chopped, or sliced almonds
egg yolks
butter
lemon juice
vanilla paste
rose water
gingerbread spice mix

The baked and still hot loaf is traditionally brushed with butter and thickly coated with powdered sugar for a snowy appearance. The sugar coating may be reduced or omitted altogether. The loaf should be tightly wrapped in cellophane and stored cool for at least a week or two before cutting into. From the bakery, the per pound cost is $10 and up for the real stuff. Not talking of the commercial supermarket versions that Trader Joe's and Aldi peddle.
That's not fruitcake! Fruitcake is what Grandma made from grocery store baking isle stuff or something that came in a tin. 😁

I'd gladly eat your confection, though. Sounds great.

Not a fan of anise, blasted spell checker, and not quite substantial enough for me. But I'll squeeze panettone and cram into hatch.
Panettone does not need to have anise, but make it yourself use none or a little. You can use a tablespoon of sherry for example - just needs a little old world flavor in the complexity of the eggy yeast dough. We - sacrilege - bought one this year, quartered it and in the freezer. A tiny bite now and then.

Yes, of course. Was actually going to say oregano but didn't want to be accused of trolling.

I prefer Colomba pasquale.

I've had a couple Easter breads (cake?) that were delightful.
I like the braided loaves and raisin rolls. Butter and/or marmalade, jam, fruit spead. Deadly but once a year is ok. Brioche for the rest of the year but not all the time.

Started off salad with Italian dressing. Deli chicken from the local store. (needed to grow the chickens a tad more)
Twice baked potato. Blueberry muffin for desert with real butter.

Shared the same meal with Son in trade for taking out my trash. ;)
