Why I mostly eat meat.

Same here. Eggs , chicken , fish and beef are what fuels me the most.
I just feel 100% better the less carbs I eat. Do not avoid all together , just limit the amount.
Yeah I stopped all carbs for weeks and the leg pain was horrible...a common thing it seems....I try to get enough carbs to avoid that...

higher protein is healthier + it fills + satisfies without raising glucose that triggers an insulin spike that is the causeof or makes many health issues WORSE!!!

I eat meat because I need to maintain muscle mass at my age. I don't really like it in large quantities, though.

This is a polarizing and contentious topic but I think it comes down to knowing your own body and how it metabolizes calories. Speaking for myself, I'm unwilling to punish my kidneys into trying to process unnecessary protein that I don't need to sustain my BMI with the sole purpose of getting in enough calories. The full-blast meat diet isn't for me, I handle fast and slow burning carbs just fine and always have so I eat for my activity level on a given day. Carbs are protein sparing so you need less protein to sustain the muscle you carry. The excess is excreted by, and extra work for the kidneys. A good place to start is to get a good read on your BMR, then eat around that calorie requirement. Having a little intel on macro's helps here.

I totally get why some people swear by the all meat and fruit thing, Joe Rogan for one touts it's effectiveness and validity but that's assuming there are digestive issues around carbs and fiber. If your body tolerates all foods, it's my view that a well rounded diet is superior to just animal proteins and their associated fats. We're omnivores not carnivores by nature. Be mindful of the work your digestive system goes through when processing different foods and try your best to meet your daily requirements across the board.

Yep. It’s highly individual.

I specifically asked my nephrologist about doing the carnivore diet and he was like “you have not started yet” & only 1/2 joking & said to keep it under 150grams of protein daily

He said beans are harder on your kidneys that meat, butter & eggs

I get bloodwork for him every 6 months & so far have not seen any negative effects

I just feel better, that's all. On most days, I eat about a pound of ground beef grilled with some cheese, and a lot of fruit—things like oranges, pineapple, bananas, strawberries, etc. If I'm feeling a bit rich, I'll treat myself to some fresh sushi. Everything I eat comes from whole foods and is as organic and natural as possible, with little to no added sugar. I only drink water—no alcohol, soda, or caffeine.

I tried eating heavier pasta meals, but I just felt awful afterward. The same goes for vegetables. Most of my meals are low in grains and added sugar, and I even feel sluggish after eating eggs.

How about you guys? Do you mostly stick to meat in your meals?
That’s a low calorie diet. You need some carbohydrates but not enough to get addicted to them.

That may be the case for you but then again, you have to factor in your cardiovascular situation. Your bloodwork doesn't reflect what you did last week. Blood levels like uric acid and cholesterol levels are formed from years of dietary habits, they don't change from sudden changes in lifestyle and diet. It takes time for your body to recalibrate and accept new changes as the norm.

The bottom line is eat for what you're going to do, not for what you've done. Choose foods that agree with your digestive system and try to eat things that support the process and maintain balance. I'm old school, any fat that solidifies at room temp is off the table for me, I don't care what's out there that says otherwise. Clean fats, lean protein, every veg under the sun, and whatever carb I want works for me. Zero sugar unless nature put it in there, and watch the sodium 💪 (y)

Yep, everyone is different

my bloodwork is extensive and includes urine and I’ve got the ability to track it and any trends, one trend is how my testosterone is increasing & cutting back on replacement therapy

I grew up with a large Folgers can on the stove full of bacon grease, sausage grease & who knows what else & nothing beats 6 eggs fried in bacon grease

Eat what you like & like what you eat. I’ve got a couple friends who are vegan & they are always trying to get veggies to taste like meat & complaining about not having vegan choices at steak houses 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

How old are you?

Why???

61 if it matters
It matters. Don't get older...stay young and handsome...the bacon grease simmered eggs will catch up to you. 100%...
Surely you've noticed some major changes in your body composition compared to when you were 45. Our body's ability to deal with stresses of all kinds decreases, liver and kidney function falls off around then. The heart even more so. That's around the time when major lifestyle changes are important.

I'm no intellectual messiah but the writing is on the wall for all of us. At 50 the years aged are exponential, it's just a matter of how you want the next twenty years to go, doing what you can to stave off needing to be attached to a piece of luggage to breathe, or having the ability to walk a flight of stairs. Like you said, everyone is different. Most of the 90+yr olds and centenarians in my life haven't been eating a high animal sourced protein and fat diet. To each their own, whatever works for you:) (y)

Me too! I love meat so much and I just don’t like vegetables at all
My point it’s not a fad. Nothing wrong with vegetables. I love greens and salad and most any vegetable. Ruminant meat is best, processed meat I mostly don’t eat. Clean pork sparingly, chicken same.

People will call such things “latest fads” and such are largely ignorant of my needs.

This is the way

Some, as I love to bbq but theres a reason the Okinawans and Japanese routinely live longer lives than Americans. They eat less red meat and alot more vegetables. Plus walk more.Lots of red red meat or a high protein diet is hard on your kidneys. Unfortunately humans weren't built to eat a high meat diet like felines

Actually the human body is designed to function entirely on animal protein

Okinawa has lots of beef, chicken and fish & not heavily processed “food” even brown sugar on Okinawa is healthy
