I was always led believe and maybe wrongly it was a whole eastern PA thing as well as some parts of NJ taking shots at making it. So from Lancaster to Bloomsburg all the way east you'd know about it. I don't remember it smelling when cooking though.Scrapple is a SE Pa thing. Dad was from there so he’d get some when down that way. He moved to NW Pa where I grew up and nobody ate it or knew what it was unless from there. He’d get some from somewhere once in a while and mom wouldn’t even be in the kitchen when he fried it for breakfast. Thanks for the memories. RIP dad.
I wonder about the difference between "Butcher's hash" and "West Coast Scrapple"? Other than the price difference.Apart from a few other places, The Local Butcher
here in Berkeley carries it:

Also a Delaware thing. They even have a scrapple festival.Pa. Scrapple is largely a thing for the greater Pa
German, aka "Pa. Dutch" areas. That would include most of greater southeastern Pa. and also a lot of central and south central Pa. For whatever reason, Phila. has always had a scrapple following as well.
Fun tale. About 35-40 years ago an elderly neighbor did a trip to Portugal. A scooter riding thief grabbed her handbag containing her passport. She went to the US embassy/ consulate to get an emergency replacement. After noting her address of record, she said that the test question asked was " what is scrapple?" I told her that she should have replied, #"&#@" sel ist panhaus.
