What are you eating right now?

I'm not gonna run another guy's life. I was well on my way also at 6'1 255lbs at about 40 years old I made a life decision now at 47 168 this morning my life is so much more in line. Sure I love my craft beer and a shooter of liquor I have made decision of what I'm happy with. I like 90 10 rule for me it works.
Good for you man! It took several years for me to lose about 30lbs and I also started at about 40 years old. Last summer I turned 45 and lost another 20lbs. but I put 10lbs back on since then. I have really changed the way I eat and make every effort to go for walks at least 3 times a day. Keep it up!

I'm past ever going back with a new lifestyle it never happen. People fail cause they treat diet as something that is temporary that's failure lifestyle is a chnge forever.

In March 2019, I weighed 285 lbs at 5'8". I was just 31 and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, IBS, and GERD. My liver was also paying a price. At the time, I was drinking 2 full sugar energy drinks a day and 4-6 cans of coke.

I cut out sugary drinks first, with no other changes, and lost 20 lbs in about 6 weeks. It just melted off. I was already feeling a lot better. My type 2 diabetes went into remission on the cutting sugary drinks alone.

I then started exercising 2-3 days a week (more now), and cleaned up my diet a bit. I'm now down to 220 lbs and gradually dropping the weight.

Nothing. But soon, smoked St. Louis style beef ribs...hickory wood :)

Yes I know. Now I just need to break my habit of sugary drinks everyday. I know it’s killing me on the inside but it tastes so good.

The time to start paying attention to it is now. Don't wait until you start feeling the effects because then it'll be too late to go back. I'm speaking from first-hand experience with this. I extensively researched this to better understand what's going on with me.

As it stands currently, you probably do feel fine. You aren't having any symptoms and all seems well. However, the consumption of excessive sugar, processed foods, saturated fats, and trans fats is forcing your pancreas and liver to work overtime to keep it in control, wearing down both organs. Over years, those organs begin to give out. The liver gets to wear it just can't keep processing the high amount of waste and sugar. The pancreas can no longer keep up and insulin production slows. Your blood glucose is now increasing. The pancreas and liver have both suffered irreparable damage. They both begin to take on lots of fat as they can no longer get rid of it. This excess sugar is now taking a toll on everything else in your body to include your heart, brain, and especially the kidneys.

At this point, more than 90% of people will still not have any symptoms. Maybe a little fatigue...

The efficiency at which your liver operates is now decreasing. Iron and calcium, absorbed in the dueodenum, can't effectively be stored and distributed into the blood system by the liver. Your serum iron levels are starting to drop. Calcium cannot be distributed effectively (by the liver) and thus the parathyroid glands doesn't have sufficient calcium to produce hormone. It's now borrowing calcium from your bones to keep you alive, resulting in a loss of bone mass and effecting your bone marrow's ability to produce white blood cells. Vitamin D, produced by your skin by UV exposure (sunlight), can't effectively be absorbed into the blood stream and most of it ends up stuck in the fat cells clinging to the liver and pancreas, both of which are getting worse. Your cancer risk is now up 50% from typical.

At this point, more than 70% of people will still not have any alarming symptoms. All feels well except maybe some fatigue, occasional headaches, and you're peeing a little more than usual. You think nothing of it and down another Monster and cheeseburger.

The years of abuse have taken a toll on the stomach, the cells of which are now producing an excess of stomach acid that's spilling over into the duodenum and up into the esophagus. You get heartburn, your first real sign that something might be wrong, but you just take some Tums and think nothing of it.

The years of corrosion from the excess acid has worn down the lining of your esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. Your body's ability to breakdown food is now diminishing. Less nutrients and minerals are absorbed into the blood stream from the food you eat. Your liver is losing the fight and begins producing an extreme excess of enzymes in a desperate cry for help. Your liver is now 10-20% larger than normal due to fat buildup and inflammation. The wearing of your esophagus and stomach lining has left you exposed to bacterial infections, many of which you won't show any outward symptoms, but they're further destroying your digestive tract. The filtration rate of your kidneys is dropping, causing mineral buildup in the kidneys (kidney stones). The same for the gall bladder from excess bile. The stress on the liver and kidneys is raising your blood pressure, dumping excess cholesterol and triglycerides into your blood stream, and reducing oxygen distribution throughout your body. Your arteries are beginning to lose flow potential due to clogging and inflammation, causing your blood pressure to increase. The inefficiency to filter excess sodium from your body is starting to cause buildup around the heart.

... and yet you probably still don't notice any alarming symptoms. However, you are having diarrhea and/or constipation more often. You're more fatigued than usual. You feel sleepy at odd parts of the day apart from your normal cycle, yet you can't sleep well. You begin to have random aches and pains in your muscles. Still, you think "just a part of getting older" and keep up the bad habits.

Your first alarm may not come until you're in your 40s, and you suddenly suffer a mild heart attack. The doctor does a full workup and finds all of your issues leading up to the heart attack. Your liver and pancreas are permanently damaged and will never be able to function normally again. You will now have to be on a special diet that won't tax your organs as much, possibly have to take insulin to supplement the pancreas's lack of production, and will probably be on PPIs and/or H2 blockers, mineral supplements, and blood pressure medication for many years to come. That's if you turn everything around at this point and change your ways. Many people don't.

So I say all of that to help you understand that indulgence at a young age is killing you inside, that is a true statement. You probably won't feel the symptoms of it until irreparable damage has been done. Do yourself a favor, and kick the habit now before it gets to that point.

At this point, you're probably feeling it.
Gosh that was painful to read. I do want to break my habits but it’s hard to resist man. And I’ve been drinking sodas a lot especially not being in school anymore. Hopefully if I stop now I’ll be ok. I do drink lots of water when working and at home at late night water with lots of lemon.

I don’t honestly care anymore. Enough people here don’t give a hoot about what in post anyways. Send a friendly PM and don’t hear squat forever; oh well. Crucify me for being real, and OPEN AND UPFRONT.
I care about what you post. Especially your oil filter cut and post.
