What are you eating right now?

Well I’m still young so I enjoy it while I can.

That may not be much longer at this rate, lol

Lol 😂 I’ve done good today I resisted getting a soda at the gas station just now.

Good for you! I hadn't had a beer since last summer, no reason other than COVID and I didn't want to fall into the habit of having a drink or two a night, which I felt I might be inclined to do, being at home so much. However, my boss bought me a 1.5L bottle of Heineken for Christmas, which I finally got into last week after my wife wouldn't stop teasing me about it and then she bought me a six pack (of 500ml cans) of Heineken when she did her grocery shop today, so I've had a bit of beer lately, but am conscious of the consumption.

I'm the same way with fast food. Sure, I'll have A&W here and there, maybe even Harvey's. But it isn't frequent, not even once a month, because, like alcohol, it really isn't good for you.

One of the best things you can do, and something I fail miserably at motivating myself to do, is to try and cook up "new to you" things on your own and see what you like. I tend to get comfortable with certain meals and cook them frequently, which drives my kids nuts. This thread has a ton of great examples of delicious dishes that you might really like and are mostly very simple to prepare.

I assume that if you can hit Five Guys you can hit a grocery store instead and have access to a stove and stuff? Might be worth experimenting with.

Yeah I have access to a stove. Made some sausage and bacon today. I just hate the thought of eating healthy 😆.

Eating healthy can taste amazing, if you think it tastes like ass, you've been eating the wrong healthy food.

That rice and chicken dish I posted a while back? SUPER easy to make, FULL of flavour, and it's healthy. Eating healthy doesn't mean punishing yourself and living off Tofu and salad, it just means skipping the grease, sugar and chemical concoctions (sodas) and filling those spots with something that's not actively trying to kill you.

Well that is good. I eat Chipotle a lot which is supposed to be healthy or something like that it’s the only healthy thing I like so far lol. And salad from the Chinese place isn’t bad either.

You can save a lot of money eating at home while also eating much better. That ribeye dinner I posted on the previous page costs me just $7 for both me and my wife. I get the ribeye cheap by buying whole ribeyes at a time, vacuum sealing, and freezing them. This ribeye I picked up on Thursday was 16 lbs, cut into 1.5" steaks, for just $6.99/lb. The picture shows the fattier end pieces that I prefer. I cut the lean center piece out and cooked separately for my wife as she doesn't like the fat. I'll indulge on the fat a bit.

I'm making chili tomorrow that's simple and delicious. I use 80/20 ground beef, diced tomatoes, black beans, red bell pepper, green onion, olive oil, minced garlic, chili powder, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper. The total cost for a pot that'll feed this family of 4 for 2 meals is <$8.

I love steak I eat it as much as I can. Can’t do chili though at least not the way we make it they use some funky chili mix.

Of the stuff you've posted, on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of least health to most healthy, yes, Chipotle would be up at around the 10. A super greasy burger with bacon and a side of diabetes is down around 1 or 2.

Well that’s good because that is my second favorite food besides Chinese.

We make our chilli similarly. I slow cook the ground beaf in a cast skillet and drain off the little fat that's there, as we buy extremely rare ground from the butcher. I've also subbed in venison in the past, which works exceptionally well too. My wife buys a pile of different beans, onion, garlic and chilli powder. We used to use a crock pot but have gone with using an Instapot more recently as the end product is the same but the cooking time is dramatically reduced, which is helpful when trying to get it all done after work and school.

I haven't eaten at Chipotle in years. I used to eat there at least a couple of times a month until I discovered how to make burritos and tacos at home for a lot cheaper, taste better, and healthier.

What I found to help with healthier foods is to spice it up. I can't stand broccoli by itself, but spritz it with olive oil, toss a little black pepper and garlic salt on it, and roast it in the oven, I'll tear it up. Grilled chicken may not sound as good as friend chicken until you put the right seasoning to it.

If you prep your meals ahead of time, it'll save you a lot of time and stress. For the chili tomorrow, I already have the seasonings in a bowl and set aside, the ground beef is thawing in the fridge, the green onions already diced, the garlic already minced, etc... All I have to do tomorrow is pull out the pot, toss the sear the peppers and garlic in the olive oil until cooked through, toss in the ground beef until brown, then add in everything else, put the lid on it, and let it simmer.

I don’t think anything is better than Chipotle lol. See the problem with that is I still live with my parents so I have to eat what they eat or fix unless I pay for it and my mom as a school cafeteria worker doesn’t feel like cooking when she gets home and doesn’t want us to get a bunch of pots and pans dirty which is often why we eat out or get something and bring it back home. We do have a place here can’t remember what it’s called but it’s supposed to be healthier than Chipotle it is pretty good.

Sounds delicious. I've used cast iron for the meat quite a bit as well, but tomorrow it will be a one pot deal. I'm going to make another pot of it before winter is over and switch up the seasoning. I'm going to try for a more earthy flavor with sage, turmeric, coriander, and cumin.

Sounds divine! My wife and I usually tackle it together, I do the meat and seasoning, she does the pot prep. Goes quicker that way and it's a nice little collaboration where we aren't tripping over each other in the kitchen, lol.

I can drink healthy but I can’t eat healthy. At least not tonight since it’s late had to get Wendy’s and I think I’ll have some Flan for dessert. They actually made it right this time just lettuce 🥬, pickles and cheese.
