What are you doing right now?

I’m relaxing. They closed work again because they keep plowing the roads and making them more slick and the temperature still isn’t high enough for any chemicals to work. I’m super excited for the weather day off lol. I was probably going to call in anyway because I don’t put my safety at risk.
I had two Doctor appointments that have been re-scheduled. I just did not feel up to the getting out early and driving in the 20dg weather. One called me yesterday since many of their employees called it. Then I cancelled another one for today. I have to get out anyway to go check on mother in law but that is just a 3-4 mile ride.

Just stay home and stay safe.
My family Dr's office texted that she fell in the parking lot and fractured her hip. She's already planning for tele-visits until she gets back on her feet. If you need to be poked, her husband is a cardiologist in the same office and covers.

i've been breaking up ice on the back deck and the driveway. 1/2 hour shifts. The ice is 2.5" thick in places. I'm not shoveling this stuff, just pushing it across the ice to the gutter. I can drive on the snow underneath it.

Be careful. It is so easy to get hurt the older we get. I am having flashbacks of picking up my elderly neighbor , taking him to hospital who kept falling and getting hurt doing jobs in his yard as he got older. He passed away several years back. What is scary is now I am the 69 yr old who had two trips to the ER last year. From hard falls in the house on tile floor. The 2nd was not so bad. The first , head hit on ceramic tile floor and was unconscious with eyes opened for 20 minutes before the EMTs got me into ambulance. I had symptoms of concussion for a month after that hard one. Actually have appointment with neurologist to follow up on that coming up soon. I know so many older guys who retired many years before me who have injured themselves in the cold wet weather trying to do things for themselves. Good luck - take care - not accusing you of being elderly ?

Thawing my nuts.

Wife got the frozen almonds and walnuts and pecans out of the freezer.
Thawing is much easier than cracking. We used to buy from Morrows (1980s era) and I would make a enormous mess with acorns and walnuts all over the dinning room floor. We had a tree out back but the squirrels bury them all over the yard. Its impossible to walk back there and they get defensive if you pick them up. I bet there is 200 squirrels back there;too much for one Beagle-hound and they pester her daily through the back door windows.

Heck with that. Just eat the squirrels.

After my third round of "I know it's what I requested but it's not what I really wanted" today, wondering if I should pull the cord and retire.

When I was doing tech support, more than once I'd made the comment (internally) that there had to be someone with a working brain at the user site, and all I needed to do was to find that one person...I have a scary feeling that at my employer, *I'm* that person...😬

When I was a kid I hunted squirrels until my mom told me to stop filling the freezer.
I hunted lots of game but enjoyed the squirrel hunting the most. Creeping thru the woods trying to spot them without letting them see you first. I never had a trained squirrel dog. I had a mixed breed who would go with me and sit right under the trees with me. He got to knowing the plan after a few hunts. He would sit there with me until I shot one. Then he would take off fast as he could and bring it back to me.

:love:I just saw a video recently of some folks who installed a door bell for their neighbor's dog. This dog apparently goes next door each day to visit these people. They installed a door bell and then trained him to press it with his paws but he started to push it with his nose!

Squirrels ... rats with bushy tails, lol.
My grandparents had one in their attic and he spent a lot of Saturdays climbing up there trying to unalive him with the pellet rifle in the '80s. They are gorgeous little creatures, my grandmother had one that would sit out right outside the back door and wait for her every morning to put food on his dish. She probably could get within a foot or so of him or her I don't know which of the two genders it was but very tame and docile. Unfortunately she passed away about 20 years ago and I always wondered what would happen if they would understand that she's not there anymore. Old people have a way of trying to make the world better than they found it and she certainly did for the neighborhood children but her love was for the birds and the bees and all the critters in the trees. They're driving by that neighborhood it doesn't have the same feeling anymore.

^^^ My Mom had a couple of squirrels that would come up to the siding glass door looking for handouts. They would take peanuts right out of the hand. They would also take peanuts out of my hand, even though they never saw me before.
My wife feeds one by hand. The squirrel also comes up and tugs on my pant leg for a peanut. He backs away and won't take if from my hand like he does with her though.

I’m 48 but recently had a sobering experience with a fall. I walked into the living room and smashed my foot into the corner of a chair. That made me jump and a laundry basket was placed just right such that I fell over it and went down hard.

It happened so fast I was unable to get my arms up to protect myself in any way. I’m still in decent shape with ok reflexes so didn’t think I was vulnerable to such a fall but it’s clear it can happen to anyone, given the right circumstances. Also, let’s not kid ourselves, I’m not what I was, physically, 20 years ago.

On another note, I used to do IT Support work and often did house calls for elderly folks (80’s and even older). I had repeat customers I knew well and a number of them sustained concussions. Often, they would say they were better but I found it could be a year or two before they were actually recovered. This went for younger folks too. My point is, take it easy and take care of yourself 😇

Your grandmother sounded a lot like one of mine. Here we have a few different type squirrels. We have a majority of the smaller greys.
We also have a large population in the woods that we call fox due to their larger size and their fine red fur. I think the "true" fox ones are even bigger and with the red fur they have a white tipped tail. I have seen them in other states. We also have some black ones. I was very surprised I found one I had shot to have a black fur. Other hunters have told me they have seen them in our woods and swamps too.

My dad grew up on a farm just like my two grandfathers and great grandparents. He had a trained racoon pet when he was younger.

In his retirement years he liked nothing more than to sit on the bench in his front yard with peanuts and pecans. His yard was over run with the little greys. It took him quite a while but he finally got one of those greys to trust him enough to jump on the bench at his side
and eat the nuts my dad would hand him. We always got a kick out of watching the interaction between them. He would sit there and feed "tippy" and the kids would just rave with laughter. It finally got to where "tippy" would actually climb on my dad's lap to eat and then fall asleep on his legs. After several years "tippy" just stopped showing up and we never saw him again. Dad had a gang of those greys who would still come close enough so that he could toss the nuts to them but none would get close like little "tippy" used to do.
