What are you doing right now?

Can’t find the game on my antenna so I’m just watching a replay ACC game between my team Virginia Tech and Boston College from 2007. Such a different era for sure and really low quality stream lol. The other game was on Paramount Plus so I was able to watch it. They kept playing the same 3 episodes of Cops so dad turned it to Family Feud on his cable tv. That’s an old people show lol.

Lol now that’s funny. Reminds me of when my friend thought RWD would be fine in the snow and took his Mustang out thinking he was unstoppable and lost control and landed in a ditch on a turn. Surprisingly no damage to the Mustang but he sure did feel like an idiot after that.
Oh you young'uns. When I was a teenager in the early '70s we all bought used Mustangs, Camaros, Novas, Tempests, etc. RWD. We put bias ply snow tires on the back (nope, you didn't put them on the front and radials were rare, super expensive Euro things) and drove in the snow. Nobody I knew ran off the road or got real stuck-stuck. Adults didn't much either. But people were willing to drive slower because it was snowing. I drove my '69 LeMans convertible around with the top down. :ROFLMAO: If you were going over 10mph the snow just blew over top of the windshield and didn't land inside.
People think they've got to get somewhere fast now days. Old guy rant. Stay warm.

'Zactly! AWD just gets you further into the ditch. Slowing way down and thinking ahead are the keys to driving in the snow.

And I left out that bias ply snow tires back then had treads like off road tires do now. Big lug open treads.

Those very heavy lugged bias ply snow 'grips' were great in the '60's and '70's. On rear wheel drive cars. If you had some sort of limited slip rear differential, even more so. Nuclear option was to put some chains on the same.

Lol. Well I learned today that there were bias ply snow tires haha. Never knew such thing existed but it’s not surprising. According to my dad and other people that grew up in that time is that unless you had 4x4 and a decent sized truck back then is you weren’t going anywhere because RWD would just spin or make you lose control an FWD was practically unheard of. But then again in the 70s he was still a kid so probably tried to go too fast lol.

I’m relaxing. They closed work again because they keep plowing the roads and making them more slick and the temperature still isn’t high enough for any chemicals to work. I’m super excited for the weather day off lol. I was probably going to call in anyway because I don’t put my safety at risk.

But driving faster minimizes time spent on those dangerous roads. That's minimizing risk. Just like when when the low fuel light comes on you drive faster so as to get to the station before running out of gas.

One winter I mistimed a storm and got stuck in it--but I had been doing what I could to push home before it got bad. Well, it was getting bad and I started to wonder if it was time to slow down a bit. Watched an Exploder do a 360 about a tenth of a mile ahead of me and thought, yep that's my signal to slow down.

Exactly. My '79 Impala with Continental tires (all-season at that, not dedicated snow/winter tires) was almost unstoppable in the snow. Then again, I drove for the existing conditions. I think that too many people feel that the electronic nannies that vehicles have today make them unstoppable.

I was at a track-day hosted by Cadillac and one of the presentations was by an engineer who worked on the StabiliTrak system. Paraphrasing one thing he said, the system is good at what it does and tries to keep you out of trouble, but if you insist on being stupid, physics *will* win and there isn't a thing that StabiliTrak can do to stop that.

We are getting ready to go out. We are all tired of sitting here. Neighbor said roads are iffy just go slow. Glad my work ended up closing today though. They said the earliest they can get to the secondary roads would be tomorrow night because it’s still too cold for the chemicals to work so the main roads still aren’t clear. And now they are calling for more snow over the weekend again so we might be in this situation for awhile.

The furnace guy arrived here and is looking it over but because the furnace started working again on its own he’s not sure he can find what caused it to stop working the other day. And his truck got stuck a quarter mile away from the house for over 2 hours because that road wasn’t properly plowed yet 😳

We are out riding around. Boy are the roads bad lol. Will be worse tomorrow when it’s 8 degrees in the morning and it all does a total refreeze. Most places aren’t open but some places are. It’s good to get out of the house though.

I told you to buy a Mitsubishi 😆 🤣

Just cleaned off 1.5" of ice over 5" of snow off of the X3. Stomped down to break up the ice over the snow from the X3 to the street. I'm not shoveling this stuff. 5 year old battery and wonderful N52 started like it was 80F out.
@AutoMechanic Since you're hankering to get out, please deliver 1 Fillet of Fish, small fries, medium vanilla shake, one Double Whopper with Cheese, large fries, large chocolate shake, and one xtra large pizza, ultimate meat with extra mushrooms. I'm only 125 miles from you, so it will keep you busy for a whille.
