What are you doing right now?

I’m 48 but recently had a sobering experience with a fall. I walked into the living room and smashed my foot into the corner of a chair. That made me jump and a laundry basket was placed just right such that I fell over it and went down hard.

It happened so fast I was unable to get my arms up to protect myself in any way. I’m still in decent shape with ok reflexes so didn’t think I was vulnerable to such a fall but it’s clear it can happen to anyone, given the right circumstances. Also, let’s not kid ourselves, I’m not what I was, physically, 20 years ago.

On another note, I used to do IT Support work and often did house calls for elderly folks (80’s and even older). I had repeat customers I knew well and a number of them sustained concussions. Often, they would say they were better but I found it could be a year or two before they were actually recovered. This went for younger folks too. My point is, take it easy and take care of yourself 😇
Yeah. Falls can cause a lot of hurt we normally would not expect. The concussion I had took a good 4-5 months to completely go away.
Mostly was headaches every evening in the very spot my head had hit the floor along with waves of nausea. I think I am over it now.

^^^ My Mom had a couple of squirrels that would come up to the siding glass door looking for handouts. They would take peanuts right out of the hand. They would also take peanuts out of my hand, even though they never saw me before.
We've got some that hang around the house and get peanuts from us. I have a strict rule of not feeding them at the front door because I don't want one sneaking in while I'm checking the mail, and in the back I tell them to get off the porch in back before I open the door. I don't know if they understand me saying "off the porch" or if they figured out that when they get off the porch, the crazy big man stops talking and throws them peanuts, but I get the result I want and they get peanuts.

I’m chilling at work. It’s been slow. Not quite as slow as yesterday but still slow. Probably will be for the rest of the week. We are supposed to get more snow on Friday and Saturday as well. I hope things pick up soon though because it’s going to be hard to pay all my bills when I’m not making any income. I will be glad for the spring and summer when business picks up. I wish I had the money some of my coworkers have but seems impossible in this day and age to make more than what bills cost unless you are making tons of money. The highest paid guy in my shop gets $29 an hour and I’m close to that but they do bigger stuff that turns more time.

Evaluate your spending habits. Eating out for nearly every meal, gets expensive quick.

Just got home from work. Stopped and got gas on the way home. They raised the prices up to $2.99 a gallon now from $2.69 that it was yesterday. I know it’s worse in some places but it sucks. I put in $25 worth and then I got a snack and drink since my parents won’t be home for a bit they went to West Virginia today to see my dad’s family. We planned to do it this weekend but it’s supposed to snow again Friday and Saturday so they went ahead and went. I’m like dang it I wanted to go. My mom is off rest of the week and has been off the whole week as she works at a school. And dad just doesn’t work hardly ever so he’s off too. My friend wants to hang out this weekend and go to Macy’s to look at the colognes and designer deodorants that are too expensive for my blood lol. I’m an enthusiast but not willing to pay their prices. I told him if it doesn’t snow I’ll take him but I’m not buying anything. That place is expensive anyway lol. He really likes Polo Blue. I’m good with the $10 knock off version lol. But when I get extra money I might splurge and get the real thing or an expensive deodorant but I’m good with what I have for now. He doesn’t drive so I’ll have to drive which is good because I haven’t been that far in a long time.

Your grandmother sounded a lot like one of mine. Here we have a few different type squirrels. We have a majority of the smaller greys.
We also have a large population in the woods that we call fox due to their larger size and their fine red fur. I think the "true" fox ones are even bigger and with the red fur they have a white tipped tail. I have seen them in other states. We also have some black ones. I was very surprised I found one I had shot to have a black fur. Other hunters have told me they have seen them in our woods and swamps too.

My dad grew up on a farm just like my two grandfathers and great grandparents. He had a trained racoon pet when he was younger.

In his retirement years he liked nothing more than to sit on the bench in his front yard with peanuts and pecans. His yard was over run with the little greys. It took him quite a while but he finally got one of those greys to trust him enough to jump on the bench at his side
and eat the nuts my dad would hand him. We always got a kick out of watching the interaction between them. He would sit there and feed "tippy" and the kids would just rave with laughter. It finally got to where "tippy" would actually climb on my dad's lap to eat and then fall asleep on his legs. After several years "tippy" just stopped showing up and we never saw him again. Dad had a gang of those greys who would still come close enough so that he could toss the nuts to them but none would get close like little "tippy" used to do.
We got grey squirrels, i think they are native though to Marysville Kansas almost up at the Nebraska border. There's a big statue like Monument of a dark color squirrel i believe in the center of town up there and they seem a lot more frisky or wild than the regular brown ones. I used to always like them when they would jump up on the fence or in the trees and have their little jujitsu grappling battles. I always did the narration from inside the kitchen window. Watching professional wrestling as a kid I was really impressed by the announcers and spokesman is they listed off the moves and all the reversals and it just blew me away until I got into ice hockey and watch those announcers call the place and that puts them on a whole new level

Heck with that. Just eat the squirrels.
That too is a possibility...

In my area we have mostly black squirrels although we also have brown and grey ones too. I didn’t even realize how unique black squirrels were until I started doing my walking tours in Niagara. My guests from other countries were commenting that they had never seen a black squirrel and it was then that I discovered that they are mostly located near the Great Lakes but in other areas they are very rare. Who knew? 😃

My sons did the same type things. They just loved sitting and watching them in my giant oak tree in the back yard. They would laugh until they hurt watching the acrobatics of those greys chasing each other and jumping back and forth from the tree to the roof of my shop.

Set a new kind of rat trap

Electro therapy

Baited with smelly tuna
My buddy who has a giant open area of many acres that was cleared out behind his garage that is now overgrow with bushes and weeds is in an epic battle  he told me. It is him vs the field mice right now with all the unusual cold weather we having.
They have been over running his garage after this sealed plastic bucket of bird feed. He says they have not got into it but they are actually eating a chewing up the edges of the cover and getting all over in and out of his boat.

He been setting traps with peanut butter and catching many. I asked how he is disposing the victims and he laughed. He has a bunch of large red tail hawks and some young eagles living in the field and woods nearby assisting him. LoL He says all he has to do is place the mice on a board laying in the edge of the field and the birds snatch them almost instantly. Good luck with your TUNA! I love it. I need to pass that on to Barry as he said today the mice are catching on to avoid his peanut butter. I told him maybe they want chunky style instead. ;)
