VW has always had strange issues with long term reliability.
Back when their 4cyl engines only had about 30 moving parts things were fantastic. Yeah, you had to deal with wonky shift linkage issues with a million bell cranks and bushings.
Now, it's the polar opposite, a 4cyl engine has 100 moving parts (40 of which are plastic) and a V6...well let's not go there.
The VR6 was bad enough with rear timing chains. They sound fantastic though!!!
